Robert O. Urfer
What all needs to be removed to get the scuttle off my Rotus? I removed the windshield and the uprights.as well as the two screws in the snaps on the lower circle piece of the outer scuttle. Do i need to remove the bolt on the frame under the dash on the side directly below the windshield upright hole? Do I need to remove all of the pop rivets along the where the bonnet sits? I want to get this thing rewired so I can have some brake and headlights.
slngsht
Those two bolts you removed for the windshield should be all you need. Look for any wires or anything else that might have been passed through the vertical side of the scuttle. Other than that, it should just lift off. slngsht
Robert, I forgot. You also need to disconnect the wiper mechanism from the motor. If you look under there, there should be an E ring to remove and separate the arm from the motor. At least that's how mine is. Chances are that the later models are different. solder_guy
Robert: On my Rotus .. I removed the 2 uprights supporting the windshield. They are held in place with two horizontal nuts each. Then I unbolted the vertical nut which holds the triangular bracket (one on each side). Underneath each nut are three washers .. one of which was a pain to get it off the bolt. These two bolts stayed on the frame. Then the scuttle was loose. No need to pop rivots. I also had to release a choke cable .. and unbolt the windshield motor and unplug the electrical connections. My Wiring: I am not pleased with the plastic toggle switches .. so I have replaced them with metal toggle switches. I found a nice switch which is momentary one way, locks the other way and center off. I will use it for my high beams. I also got a turn signal switch with lever in the mail yesterday. I need to fabricate a bracket to hold it in place beside the "free" steering spindle. Rob
