Hi Everyone.

Heading to inspection it was noticed a boot is missing from a ball joint, and this may cause a fail in the inspection.

In a preemptive measure to pass, I am looking for a pair of upper ball joints for the '99 Birkin S3. I have heard the stock ones are Fiat, but no not what model they are from. Any assistance in getting some would be great, even better if it was speedy. :)

Thanks.

Sorry for placing the thread in the wrong area. I've looked for a way to delete and move it but can't see it.

I would take this problem as an opportunity to replace the fragile little Fiat items with a much safer combination of spherical/rose joints and what AFCO calls "Adapter bolt tie rod ends" part#10240.

I had one of the Fiat joints break on a test run, the day before a track day 250 miles away.

The Yahoo Birkin owners site has info on this front control arm ball joint issue.

It's another delay for you but worth it .

When you figure it out, please post the part numbers. My car came with all the rubber (all of it) dry rotted. Must have been a hot trip across the ocean in a box. Anyhow, the ball joint boots are toast and always have been. I"m looking to swap them out this summer. Mine is a 2003 with normal front suspension (not wide track).

AFAIK this was the lower ball joint that was "value-engineered" sometimes 2000/2001 and Duane may actually still have the stronger joints on his '99 model. But he was anyway looking for the upper tie-rods. I had posted some numbers on the Birkinowners forum.
