Trailer Hitch on a Caterham?

Has anyone fabricated or bought a trailer hitch that would work on a Caterham SV with deDion rear suspension? Pictures or info would be appreciated.

 

My 5/8 scale Seven should finally be delivered this week and I have a Harbor Freight 4 x 8' trailer to carry it on that hooks up to my Miata. I would like to be able to tow the Baby 7 with the Caterham but mounting a hitch to it seems almost impossible. I think the trailer plus the Baby 7 should come in around 400 lb total.

Skip, for a lightweight trailer like that, what others have done is attach to the spare tire carrier. Either clamp to the tubes close to the back sheet metal, or modify the spare carrier with vertical sleeves set in the tubing to run bolts thru. Not super strong, but oughta work for what you're contemplating.

I don't know.....I would be hesitant to rely on typically flimsy (ahem light weight) boot frame tubing of a Seven decelerating a 400 pound trailer when braking seriously. When I fixed the rear end damage to my Seven earlier this year I could straighten out these tubes with a few rubber mallet strikes.

Z3 stalker to the forum.....I know Stew has just fitted a tow bar to his car, don't know if his arrangement would work on a caterham but worth a look...calling Stewart....

It looks like I could use the empty bolt holes on the bottom of the Sierra differential to take the fore and aft loads but like Gert points out the framing of the boot at the bottom is pretty light weight tubing to support the tongue weight. The diff has the two extra struts so the additional load should not be a problem

That's a lot stouter framing and more of it under there than in my Caterham.

Wow - must be constructed of dreams and wishful thinking! I wonder if welding a plate over a number of tubes to spread the load might be beneficial. Not sure how feasible that would be, not knowing what your rear structure looks like.
