Annual Inspection?

Recommended Posts

Does your state require an annual, biannual or ever inspection of your 7?

For reasons that will remain forever a mystery, the NCDMV titled my '07 Caterham as a '57 Lotus 7 'replica' so because NC does not require inspection of vehicles over 30 years old, I don't ever have to submit to an inspection.

How does your state handle this?

When I bought the car it was already titled in NJ. When I got it home was just 20 mins in the DMV to get it titled in Alaska, my temp tags and my license plate on order. They did have to call the DMV up in Anchorage how to process it, but they didn't even look at the car. Its nice living in a state with no emissions inspections.

In 2011, I registered my freshly built Locost in Illinois. Our state allows for special registration as recommended by SEMA for Street Rods and Custom Vehicles. As such, it is titled as a 1960 Lotus Custom. No Emissions testing is required. Illinois has no periodic safety inspections for any passenger vehicles so that is not required either. The State did inspect the vehicle and applied the VIN. They came to my house and did it in my garage on a Sunday morning!

It looks like North Carolina enacted similar SEMA sponsored legislation in 2009

My 2004 Caterham is registered in Colorado as a Kit. This exempts me from emission inspections. We don't have safety inspections in Colorado although before I could license it the highway patrol had give it a roadworthy inspection. It was a cursory inspection. When he saw the 3" exhaust pipe coming out of the engine compartment he had me fire it up to hear how loud it was. He listened to it on idle and I asked if he wanted me to rev it up and he said no, just shut it off.
