New Article - a visit to Spa-Francorchamps in a Caterham
cemaykan replied to Croc's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Great write-up/summary of both events @croc and it was nice to spend some quality time together with you and Bruce! Hoping we get to drive together in the future! Btw, we were so lucky with the weather first 3 days, however the last day the skies just opened up - and it was the typicaly SPA weather with rain and patches of fog. Bruce and I also wrapped early on the 4th day with all that rain. To be honest, we were also exhausted from the 3 days of high G corners anyway! SPA was one of my dream tracks and after countless laps on the simulator over the years, i really felt at home! Although the sim doesn't really carry over the elevation changes and the occasional sensation of "am I going to die", it was very helpfull in getting up to speed, no doubt. On the 3rd day, the track day gods were with me and I had 1 open lap and had to put it all together! This was so much fun, hoping to make it there again in the future! :) -
US Caterham Cup - 0.082 Seconds between 1st and 2nd place!
cemaykan replied to cemaykan's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Thank you sir, glad you liked it. The only part i don't feel great about is the sound quality and the video quality of the AIM camera my friend was using. It is so 1990's resolution. Luckly they came up with a Aim Smartycam 3 which he is upgrading to as we speak -

I hit coolant on back straight braking point, in qualifying. In qualy, i was 122mph ( according to the data) and what saved me was that i was close to the wall, so not much rotation happened towards the wall. As a result, i bounced of the wall, scarpped both wheels, lost rear fender and messed up my alignment. The race was heavy rain, with alignment i was compromised but in Sunday qualy and race ran away in the dry with full donination ๐ -
We've been having a great PNW weather lately and of course this meant we had tricky conditions at the Portland chicane challenge. Ofcourse it did not help that Radical dumped coolant on the track, so it was more ice then wet I've used multiple cameras for this edit, 360, Gopro, AIM and a drone. Hope you folks enjoy it

Round #2 of the Caterham Cup is in the books from the historic (and quite sketchy) Pacific Raceway last weekend. We were 7 strong and the #'s will continue to increase in the coming races as more cars get completed. Saturday we had some dry weather during the sprint race - and that turned out to be a epic battle till the very end between Tamer and myself. I tried everything to get away from the DRS but picking a lapped car finally did the trick eventually On Sunday we had full monsoon rain and after qualy we all decided to get home in one piece as the track turned into a active river. That being said, here are the 2 x fastest laps from dry on Saturday and rain on Sunday. Can you tell the diffrence of the race lines? We'll be at Spokane in 2 weeks time - in the middle of nowhere, in a desert surrounded by a Walmart and a large casino.

Hi Folks, One thing let to another - after I had gotten my 620r last year, I found myself on the grid with a Beachman G7 (almost 420r spec) with a bunch of other Caterham's lined up at Portland Raceway. This was first the time I was driving this G7, in race conditions and what a blast it was dicing with other Cats with the massive advantage of draft. I think we were 7 strong and should be up-to 10 x Cats by the next race at Pacific a few weeks from now. I ended up winning all 2 sprint races and the mini-enduro with zero issues thanks to Beachman's cheater G7 In the mini-enduro, in which all the classes came together - we also got top 5 overall. This was due to the heavy rain and the timid BMW's and Porsche's doing BMW and Porsche things. I think the Cats are being more noticed now and maybe we'll get even more turn out That being said, here is some action from the Sunday sprint racing for the lead! If you want to race against me - you know where to find me. Come get some!

Yep, if you go too fast basically drone will just stand still until it can see you again or if the battery level drops under 10% it flies back to where it took of and land automatically. There is aslo a beacon you can get which increases the range beyond visual tracking. Those roads are great here, and yes on the way back home i was able to warm up the rear tires ๐

Well, I had to try my Skydio 2 autonomous drone for a short drive to see how it can keep up. It is quite amazing that, it can avoid trees, power lines and pretty much anything. All I had to do was drive, well drive under 35 mph - which is the hardest part Put together a short little video, hope you folks enjoy it:

Finally got my 620r on track! WHAT A BEAST!
cemaykan replied to cemaykan's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I couldn't imagine describing the experience as "massaging a sequential shifter" as it was quite violent. Not just because of the force needed to clank the gears but also from the back kick and loud pop. Reassuring yourself that it would be OK and not lift for the next pop which kept coming rapidly was quite the experience! That car looks amazing - don't wait ... just get it...! -

@JohnCh - Ah yes, that beast! I cannot wait to see that on the track one day! A playdate with the 620r would be fun, but I suppose the 620r has no chance -

Well then that's another reason to play @Croc! -

@Croc - Are you local here as-well? What are you building? Let's play!! @Kitcat - Yea the track is awesome for these cars. The Atom 3S had advantage with the DF though on medium speed corners (+also he was running wider tires). But i do think these cars will also do not too bad at high speed tracks. I'm sure they'll be able to keep up with most out there easly. Btw who is Cong and what is he driving? -
Hi Folks, You guys may remember me a year ago or so when I had purchased my yellow 620R from a shop in NY. Since then it has been quite a journey until we got it over in Seattle and Bruce from Beachman Racing got it working! Then we noticed that, I'm a bit tall for the S3 chassis, so we lowered the floors and of course it didn't sound that good - so got rid of the rear exhaust with a traditional side one - which sounds just perfect! I have to say I'm very lucky to have Beachman Racing in my zipcode otherwise I probably would be still driving my Lotus instead! His experience, knowledge should be downloaded and archived so it can pass on for future generations! He also tolerates my "mechanical retardation" which I appreciate Anyways, long story short - after a year of waiting around - finally getting it home putting on 500 miles under 5k RPM powersliding in Seattle rain, I finally had the opportunity to join a track day with Beachman and 2 other Caterhams, and my friends Ariel Atom 3S at Oregon Raceway Park (This is track in the middle of nowhere but suits lightweight cars quite well) Now ,I only had 500 miles with a Caterham, never tracked this car before.. still getting used to the flatshift seq box, etc.. so I was worried that it would be a handful but I have to say I was very impressed on how predictable it was, very well mannered. There was some mild understeer in medium corners, a bit twitchy if you don't respect the throttle and had a bit of a lift on some off-camber over the hill corners - but all where expected with the stock alignment, tires and setup. There was not one single moment where I was confused on how the car reacted, which I can't say for all other cars i've driven or raced in the past. It was beautiful to drive. Things came a bit fast, i had to adjust to the speed and the sequential box was amazing with the flatshift. I couldn't get heal'n'toe to work - neither Beachman because of how small the S3 pedal box was. We will need to try something else I assume with the pedals later. Going out, my intention was to take it easy with my friend in his modified Atom 3S - but we had a bit of a play date instead First half of the video i'm chasing the 3S. Second half he is chasing me. Ohh,, that cone that was in the side of the road that I hit - unfortunately broke both left hand fenders, which is probably gonna hurt my wallet as they are carbon fiber Other then that the first day was amazing and I cannot wait to drive this beast more. Special thanks for Beachman for helping me get on the track - which has been a 5 year dream for me!!
-
Yes, that sounds good. Also not sure if you saw the earlier msg on the side loud exhaust setup vs rear exhaust๐
-
Yes, would have loved to hang out with you guys in the east coast. I did miss dunkin donuts too (Seattle is Starbucks country) I actually used to live in Boston for ~10 years before i moved here, in which i daily drove a Lotus Elise with 60k miles on it Rain, shine or snow. You'd be surprised how easy it is to power slide a Elise on fresh snow with proper tires! I was young and stupid then... now, i'm not that young anymore
-
Currently the PNW tracks (Ridge, ORP (middle of nowhere), Pacific Raceways) we are lucky to not have sound limitations. I have to say PNW is awesome for a track junkie,, rain or shine I think only Portland has some sound limits though. If i every drive from Seattle to CA for some track days with you guys(which i will surely do at some point) you are right, i will for sure need to double silencer + rear config for sure.
-
Awesome thanks for the pictures and keep us posted on how the build goes and ETA! Looking like a tight fit already! Btw, i assume it comes with two exhaust configurations... The one that goes all the way to the back and the loud one that comes from the side, with flames and pops We all know, this car wants the loud one set! I can't wait to wake up all the neighbors in the morning from a mile away !
-
Awesome ordered the black stripes so this one looks identical to the Lego 620r! Yes, if you ever come to Seattle do let me know!!
-
Thanks Rick for sharing photos! Keep me posted on how this week goes on the build and i'm looking fwd to your power slide video soon! In the meantime, i just go the Lego kit for 620r for father's day! It's almost the same! Looks like i'm going to need the black stripes to match it though... Is there a good way of getting those, doe anybody know? I would think they are just decals but not sure, how is easy is it?
-
Hey Rick, nice to meet you and thanks for sharing more context. My interaction has been limited to Park Place so far, but great to hear from you! You do know i'm counting days to get this car... and hoping for maybe 4th of July week? So i do have two questions asks for you: - You gotta share some pictures with us on how the build is going?! - When the car is done, before you ship it... i expect you give it a go... push it hard, have fun... and do share on this thread how the car feels! (Hey if you have video of a few powerslides that will put a smile on my face as-well while i wait) As i wait, i'll continue playing with my Lego caterham which this will be identical to Cheers, -Cem
-
First half of July if everything goes well.. Hoping to do some drives with the local folks! Also open for a roadtrip as-well at some stage, if there any crazy folks out there...
-
Yes, they just need to put the engine + transmission and they will ship it as a working car. One would expect this is a easy job, but i'm sure with my luck some parts are missing, etc.. Apparently the Sadev also needs a bit tinkering to dial in settings.. so hoping for no big surprises.
