Thanks for the help guys. Still deciding what to do. If I can locate some used type s seats for sale will probably go that route. The new one's from Caterham are too expensive for me by the time you get them to the door. I should have jumped on the ones that were for sale on this forum recently. I am contemplating making my own seats or finding some used Kirkeys or like. The current bench seat configuration has my feet to far from the pedals (only 5'6"), the car is driveable but have to slink down to fully depress clutch. I wonder if this is the first time someone has complained about the seven being too big!

Looks great! Need more details! I am trying to set up a track day at mosports driver development track in june. let me know if you are interested.

A red S1 with rotary power was on ebay in june and looks to have sold for $16,000 It is listed in the cars for sale section on this forum in june. I have a 12a engined 7 and love the revs. Probably the next best to a bike engine for high rpm fun. They are easier to drive around town and have reverse. They are a dirty motor and quite loud and could be potential problem if have to pass emissions.

I would like to set up a lapping day at mosports driver development track sometime in the summer. I am hoping to attract as many 7's as possible from the area. I live about 25 mins from the track. We could meet at my place and and drive up together. I am still in the process of finding out the particulars. Will need to get approx 30 cars to keep entry fee at about $100 per car. let me know if there is any interest. Other cars are welcome as well.

What temp should cooling fan come on?
trough doctor replied to trough doctor's topic in General Tech
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Ran the car this afternoon just idling and temp leveled out at 90 deg. The fan still did not come on. With my other My other 7, the fan comes on as soon as I turn the key. It used to be on a switch but it broke and I just connected the two wires together. No more forgetting to turn the fan on! -
What temp should cooling fan come on?
trough doctor replied to trough doctor's topic in General Tech
The thermoswitch is in the bottom of the rad. The switch is not from miata, just thought that the temp the fan came on would be similar. I by passed the thermoswitch last night with ignition on and fan came on. Will run the car a little longer tonight and see what happens and check switch for continuity if fan does not come on -
lotus twincam. The gauge only reads to 110 degrees celcius which = 230 degrees fahrenhiet. I have had the car idleing and the gauge is past the half way point at 85 degrees celcius which = 185 degrees fahrenhiet and the fan is still not running at which point i have switched the engine off as to not cause any damage. I checked my miata repair manual and it says the thermoswitch is not activated until 207 degrees farenhiet which = 97 degrees celcius. This temperature seems pretty close to the end of my gauge. Do I need to run it a little while longer to 97 degrees?

Magnesium wheels suitable for the street?
trough doctor replied to trough doctor's topic in Wheels and Tires
What is typical selling price for set in good condition? I did not see any markings on the one wheel I took off, but did burn some sanding dust and it went up like a sparkler. Compared my magnesium 185 70 13 to a 205 60 13 aluminum wheel and the mag wheel seemed like half the weight or less. -
twobone, did you have any luck with your tire search? I will be looking for new rubber in the spring. my current tires are still like brand new but are not very sticky and appear to be a vintage model.

Magnesium wheels suitable for the street?
trough doctor replied to trough doctor's topic in Wheels and Tires
Thanks timax, I will most likely keep these wheels for the street as finding an inexpensive used set seems unlikely. Sorry twobone. -
I just recently aquired a 1977 caterham with lotus twin cam. The car came with 13 x 5.5 magnesium minilites with 185 70 tires. The bolt pattern is 4 x 4.25 and not sure of the back space. I do know the back space it is a lot less than the options Ive been looking at (focus mustang etc.) I would like to find a 14" wheel or possibly 15" without replacing the wheel studs for longer one and using spacers. Any suggestions? I' ve been told that I should'nt use my magnesium wheels on the street. Is the material just too unstable (pot holes etc)? Thanks

I went last year and couldnt believe the number of cars in the show! I didnt stay long as I had my wife and two year old son with me. Mainly went to check out the lotus seven cars and was pleasantly surprised to see about ten cars on display. I was also hoping to see a seven for sale but no luck. Unlikely I will be able to make it this year. Hoping to show my 77 Cat twin cam next year (picking it up tomorrow). Twobone are you going to be there with your car?

trough doctor replied to trough doctor's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
if you want to do a trade + cash from my end or if you dont like my seats i will buy yours outright. do you have pictures of the seats in current condition? I assume the drivers seat is on sliders and adjustable? check out my seats in general discussions under 1977 caterham twin cam to zetec? I dont believe they are a caterham seat. -
Looking to replace my bench seats. Trying to avoid buying new ones from caterham. Is there a more inexpensive seat available that would fit and look similar to the caterham seats? I am only 5'6" and need to get closer to the pedals.

car looks great. I especially like the the stripes and se7en along the side. Do you notice more wind and gravel are entering the cockpit, hitting rear fenders since installing cycle wings.

1977 caterham twin cam to zetec?
trough doctor replied to trough doctor's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Cant confirm at this point if #s are matching. as far as I know the car was purchased as a kit in england and assembled in Canada. the donor car was lotus cortina with twin cam. car is registered as 1966 lotus( the donor car). will be able to find out more once car is in my possession. Thanks for the input everyone. will most likely keep car in current spec. If I need more power sounds like best option is to sell and look for different car. the car comes with dual weber 45's as well. will these give me any extra power? or are they over kill? what about a color change? not very fond of this red. was thinking black fiberglass and polished aluminum? or possibly all black with gold accents( jps color scheme)? will one of these choices hurt the value of the car?. I know what you are thinking, sounds like Iam not that happy with the car. Trying to find a left hand drive caterham in canada is next to impossible! in the past 3 yrs of looking this is the second lhd cat i have come across, the other was 2000 and something that was listed for around $40,000 cnd. Besides my new car was only an hours drive from my home. It will take a little more effort to get car close to what i like, but thats half the fun! -
1977 caterham twin cam to zetec?
trough doctor replied to trough doctor's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I am not asking what the car is worth. I want to get an idea what the engine is worth? Will I be able to fund the zetec swap by selling off the lotus twin cam engine? -
I recently purchased a 1977 caterham with dry sumped lotus twin cam 4spd, live axle with lsd, minilte magnesium wheels. will be picking up car in mid september. What is a dry sumped lotus twin cam worth? is a zetec swap possible in this car? will it fit under the hood? How much work is it? what will it cost? Will this devalue the car?

EBAY SCAM ALERT! When this car was on ebay I placed a maximum bid of $7000.00, knowing full well I had no chance of being the winning bidder as the car was listed on the toronto kijiji site for $16500. The auction came and went with bidding stoping around $11,0000 with reserve not met. Just how I thought it would end up. Two days ago I received an email which appeared to be a legitimate ebay notice stating that the seller was accepting my offer of $7000.00. I could'nt believe it. bidding for this car had ended about two weeks ago. I responded to the email by saying, I had the funds to buy the car but would like to take a look at it first(Oakville is only about 45 mins from my place). He replied by saying he would ship the car for free to my address after he received the money transfer and that I had 10 days to inspect the car and if I was'nt happy with it I could return it and get my money back. I emailed him back stating that I would need to see the car first. While waiting for his reply, I looked up the kijiji ad and noticed the name of the seller was different. I called the phone number in the ad and Jim answered. Apparently one of his friends listed the car on ebay to help him sell it. He assured me this was a scam and would not take less than $15,000 for the car. I then checked ebay for a message about this item. There was nothing. The ebay scammer had my full name, address and postal code. Maybe he assumed I was an easy target as I have only 4 transactions on ebay.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Posting those links to the centaur information undoubtedly saved me answering alot of questions. Thanks 11Budlight! Scannon, the headlights are just attatched directly to the fiberglass nose with a washer and nut on the inside, the car came this way. You may want to check to see if your state has a minimum hieght requirement for headlights. My mechanic was fairly lenient when I had the car safetied.
