  1. In the middle of rebuilding my calipers, and had not previously run into rear calipers with hand brake mechanisms like the Ford Sierra ones on the S3. A bit of poking around and found this Ford shop manual that covers the rear calipers on the Caterham (at least mine) quite well. Pages 77 to 83 in the PDF - for future reference - may save someone from the search in the future: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6tbdi6wmpewlloi/80-Ford-Sierra-RS-Cosworth-Factory-Service-Manual.pdf?dl=0
  2. Why in the world would you go through the hassle and expense to change RHD to LHD? My '89 Caterham is RHD (imported from Northern Ireland) and it doesn't bother me in the least. The car is so narrow, that the difference between RHD and LHD is literally 20 inches. And the benefit is you get to exercise your left arm, the exhaust is on the passenger's side, and people were already looking at you funny so what's a bit more oddity?
  3. Thanks - I knew about this seal, but had not picked-up on it not being in the kits. Biggred said they would include them if I asked - nice of them! Here's the link to the Front (Spitfire) caliper kits: S3 (Spitfire) front caliper kit Order placed!
  4. Thanks Ferrino! Tony @ Biggred was very responsive and got right back to me. Link to kit and calipers: Seals and Pistons Link to calipers: Calipers I've enquired about a kit for the front calipers - Spitfire I believe - and will order a set for both axles.
  5. Thanks for the link - I'll contact them Monday and see what they have!
  6. My '89 S3 Caterham DiDion has dragging rear brakes. It's not the handbrake, so I suspect the calipers are a bit crusty inside. They don't look as though they have been off the car since '89. Are there any US sources for rebuild kits or replacement calipers, or do I have to go UK? I did a search for this, but haven't come across any relevant posts (yet). The calipers are Ford, with 0659/7 and 0658/4 stamped on them. Could they be the same as a Merkur XR4Ti? Thanks!
  7. PO of my Caterham installed one of the Loraffe repellers and it seems to have worked. I think it's worth a go for sure, anything to try to disuade the little bastards! Other successful option is a number of glue traps set around - very effective, and gives you the satisfaction of seeing the results! Just remember to move them before you drive the vehicle!
  8. Problem solved. CF14 flasher unit (ISO) for $7.99 from Amazon works as intended - thanks to all who chimed-in with ideas! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B8L68NSK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. MV* - thanks! I meant to say ISO, as the ones I have tried (no luck) are JSO. I just ordered a CF14 flasher unit (ISO), as the CF13 (JSO) certainly doesn't work. We'll see if that finally resolves the issues.
  10. Progress - worked my way back to the original problem! Grounding was fine, but the ignition switch wasn't PO or somebody had hacked-in a screw-terminal off-on-start toggle switch, and attached the wires with some really dodgy connectors. One of the wires had fallen off. I knew the original starter switch was bad, and had sourced a replacement from a nice chap in the UK. I cleaned-up the wiring, put new ends on, and re-installed the replacement switch and all now works as it should - except the indicators and flashers still don't flash. I ordered a new hazard switch from Caterham as the tests on my old one show it has problems, but I'm now convinced that the flasher is actually bad. I took the cover off the flasher, and it picks-up the relay and closes the contacts when the indicator switch is turned-on, but the relay doesn't release to make them flash. I'm fairly convinced it is indeed a JIS flasher - so anyone have a link to where I can get one without going back to the UK again? Here's a pic of the previous switch wiring...
  11. Thanks Jordway! I've tried flipping the switch, and it just flips the bird back to me :-) Just placed an order for a new one from Caterham...
  12. Thanks - I have not yet, but it's on my list. Where could I source a replacement, as my experience in trying to get all the switch bits back in the box has not historically been great :-) Also found this post - referenced here for future - on how to diagnose the switch: https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/forum/techtalk/hazard-warning-light-toggle-switch
  13. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm away from the car this week but will investigate when I get back. Question - not sure I understand your comment of "add clamps to the metal brake lines off the master cyl"? On the grounding, there is a ground running from the bat to a lug on the left frame tube (near the header), and a second ground from that lug attaches to the bell housing bolt above the starter. I'll check them all, and consider re-doing the whole mess. The tractor battery terminals complicate things just a bit, but it seems to fire it up just fine for now.
  14. Oh, you've found the hidden flux capacitor A small one suffices for the 7. Actually, it's a Loraffe Under Hood Ultrasonic Mouse Deterrent. The previous owner stored the car in a carport (open to critters) and installed this to keep the vermin Impossible to prove a negative, but I see no signs of mice. I've left it in primarily to have people ask what it is... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LCKBGY8/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&aaxitk=693fc39859006f53e8630de4f48f7b37&content-id=amzn1.sym.53aae2ac-0129-49a5-9c09-6530a9e11786%3Aamzn1.sym.53aae2ac-0129-49a5-9c09-6530a9e11786&hsa_cr_id=6161534900101&pd_rd_plhdr=t&pd_rd_r=6e540eb8-4aad-41d4-a57f-7045719c5809&pd_rd_w=zB4qE&pd_rd_wg=vjH2Z&qid=1661797307&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_td_asin_1_title&sr=1-2-a094db1c-5033-42c6-82a2-587d01f975e8&th=1
  15. Thanks! Had no idea there were ISO and JSO flasher configs - perhaps that caused me to blow a fuse, but all the ones in the fuse box at least looked just fie - I pulled and inspected each one - especially the one for the indicators. More investigation in a few days when I can get back on it. I also suspect a bad ground somewhere... Here are some engine pics.
