I realize economies of scale don’t exist with bespoke items, but it is intersting (unfortunate?) that the 170 price increased the most (4-5000?) while each following model increased less and less. I would think people buying 420’s and 620’s would be the ones to absorb more of an increase and not those of us who are recklessly emptying their savings account on the cheapest offering they have (lol) I guess they based it off volume which makes sense to my non economist mind. However it is nice that the Super 600/2000 prices didn’t seem to change, which make them more tempting to the distinguished gentlemen type 🧐 Off topic side note: I didn’t know that’s why USA doesn’t get the 170. I assumed it was lack of emissions certifications etc. I’d love to join the club with a 170. I think my Miata was a “115” so the 170 would definitely fit the bill!

Wow that’s kinda crazy to think you could be on the hook for committing to an almost 1:1 exchange rate then it potentially doubles over 1.5 years 😬

Did you check Lightstream for loans? They are around 5-6% for good credit unless that changes specifically for a Caterham. Did you get to test drive a Caterham? And did Rich say anything about £$ exchange rates? Would it be a catch-it-on-a-good-day type deal or monthly average etc? That will make or break me when time comes to buy, I don’t exactly want to spend 1.5x the £ amount on one of these things. I think they are worth the £ amount but not exactly the $ amount at times. And I would get the 2 pots to embrace the lightened spirit of the car. Plus they will give you better experience when you track it. Once you nail your braking points and are applying 100% brakes then I think you could buy any 4 pot you want off the shelf here in USA. The 4 pots look massive in the configurator. I don’t even know if you could apply 100% brake with those and not lock’em up.

Here are some pictures from todays Lotus meet. Sorry it’s kind of off topic but I don’t know any other car guys to share them with! I emailed them to GG Lotus. Would’ve looked better with a 7 in the mix 😉

I would do 360 personally. As far as engine standing the test of time I assume it would last longer all things being equal and this is a car I want my pass down to my children’s children as long as possible. Don’t know if it’s hot cams or higher compression but 360 just seems like a more reliable route? I would do a track day roll cage, the one with the two radius half hoops. It seems like they would help to get in and out of the car. I agree on the 13’s. The 15’s if nothing else just look silly on a 7 IMO. I would do the brake upgrade from factory and probably wouldn’t plan on upgrades “down the road”. Just seems like a more expensive way to go about it. LED headlights just make sense, driving at night with bad lighting is no fun. Electrical cutoff for parking security around here? I would think that may help? Do people steal these? Seem like they would be difficult to hide once stolen.

That’s awesome, I could definitely swing a ride over there. I’d be up to Sonoma too but the kid is quite the handful right now and I work M-F. I assume your group is going up to Skyline somehow? I have a nice camera and would be happy to take rolling pictures of everyone. I know moving pictures are hard to come by.

I could always just buy a Miata (again) And I’m currently 1st in line for my neighbors super clean 2000 Subaru 2.5RS but that 2030 UK thing really lights a fire under me arse as they say over there lol. If I had to bet I would say 1.6L range 7’s are long gone. They will continue with 2L as their “base models” and will introduce an electric or two. I couldn’t imagine them signing a contract for 1000’s of small displacement engines to produce another Sigma replacement with only 7 years left. My Smart electric lease and Egolf were a blast to drive I hate to say it. I hope at least Caterham can pull a Kawasaki Ninja Electric move by incorporating a clutch and gears onto an electric power plant to maintain some level of nostalgia.

Pardon my interruption, but I thought I’d chime in (create account just to respond here lol) Great post OP first of all, I was going to create an identical post such as this a year ago when I talked to Rich for an hour about buying a 7. Long story short I would require financing to purchase, I have a kid, they axed the Sigmas which is what I wanted (could afford) so backburnered the idea. I definitely want to own a 7 before 2035 for FOMO on owning a gas burner here in the (for the most part) great state of California. As I did my monthly checkup of the Caterham UK website, I saw the Super 7 2000 and it reignited my flame. And I just paid off my Triumph motorcycle so… Maybe? And that LightStream financing showed 6% financing for me…and the £ is down… So I am in the same boat as OP. I have 6 pack for anyone that will let me sit in their 7, ogle it for a while, smell the “inside” lol I am also South Bay, Mountain View so the North Bay is quite the haul for me unless it came with a 1:45 lap time 😬 I’ve seen that “older” green yellow red seat 7 here in MV on El Camino maybe a year ago now. I also saw a new 7 on P4ge M1LL rd, (don’t blow up the spot spelling) it was black and pretty stealthy looking, I threw myself out of my girlfriends Honda Accord window at him and it kinda freaked him out as he slowed too but ultimately passed (aren’t you guys used to people jumping out into traffic to look at your 7!?) I’ve never really seen one in person otherwise. So I want a 7. Waiting for Caterham to sign up with a sub 2L Mazda Skyactiv or similar if they are even looking for sub 2L any more. Of course (if I could $wing it) I would entertain a 360 and pretty sure I could ease into a 420. I have no real interest in a 620, I prefer pedal to the metal, preserving momentum… living lmao. Welp I look forward to meeting you all some day! Hopefully in a 7! Kyle
