  1. We drove it on a tuesday starting at about 10:00 AM, and we had almost a clear run all day. We were lucky, and admittedly you are less prone to traffic on the Tail. But we found this to be a nice and different drive. More straights, shaper turns, overall a nice experience.
  2. Had a great time driving with two of my Cobra buddies at a famous stretch of highway in Southwest Virginia called Back of the Dragon. 33 mile stretch of beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain 2 lane highway with 433 turns. The blue Cobra is fire breathing Superformance replica with a giant big block, and the Cream colored car is a Factory Five kit that my friend built from scratch over a 5 year period. It is a masterpiece. My ride is a 620S I've had about 5 months now. Happy to report I was able to hang with the big boys with no problem, although my car sounded pretty anemic beside those beasts . I love my Caterham even though the wheel is on the wrong side.
  3. Thanks for that SlowDude!
  4. Do you have a link for that?
  5. I must say that I am impressed by those who are older and larger than me who can get in with the top on. Maybe I just need to give it the old college try, but I'll need a spotter ;-)
  6. I got it out of the trunk yesterday and looked at it, all folded up neat. And I suspect that is exactly what it will look like when I sell the car someday. I'm 6'2", and old, and I seriously don't think I could get into the car with the top on without spraining something or worse. I have considered the possibility of leaving several snaps undone and then having a third party snap me into the cockpit after I have settled in, but I guess that is cheating. Am I alone on this? Any other owners who have never driven with the top on?
  7. I also can take off my steering wheel. These things make my car hard to steal. But I've been wondering, has anybody in history actually attempted to steal a Caterham? Can you imagine trying to look inconspicuous while driving away a stolen Caterham? And, really, how many people can even drive a stick shift these days? Or, for that matter, if you managed to get past the immobilizer and the battery disconnect and the missing steering wheel, could you find the start switch?
  8. PSA. My CF seats in my 620 have zero lumbar support, actual it curves out so it has NEGATIVE lumbar support. I found this on Amazon and it works a treat. Cheap, effective, doesn't look too cheesy. And it stay in place pretty well. I use the seat holes for the shoulder straps to locate the hanging straps for the support. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L2RLBZ1?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

  9. I'm finding the same thing to be true. If I'm close to the RH edge of the road, I MUST be comfortably away from the center line. When the inevitable happens and somebody approaches over the line, it's going to be harder to throw the side of the car I'm sitting in into the weeds, though.
  10. Nope, I'm absorbing and enjoying the advice.
  11. :-). I don't doubt that, the weak point with my car at this point is undoubtedly my clumsy left handed shifting. I miss the 2-3 shift regularly as I must let the spring move the shifter further to the right before I push it into 3rd or it hangs in neutral. Mine is an "S" just for the record. I'll try to come next year, but I travel a lot and I never know when I'll be gone.
  12. Hmmm. The two cars on the outside positions of the front row have the extra nosecone vent. I thought that was only on 620's?
  13. Thanks! From the look of the picture in the OP there were at least two 620's at that event. I really wish the date was different, it's only about a 4.5 hour drive from here.
  14. Would absolutely love to be there, but I am out of the country that week.
  15. My daughter says it looks like an insect.
  16. I think simply racking up some safe miles in the Cat will teach me where the corners are and where I am on the road. I've spent 50 years and well over 4 million miles teaching my brain where the vehicle belongs and now I'm unlearning it, and worse, having to change mental gears every time I switch from RHD to LHD. I've only racked up 200 miles on the Cat so far and every single drive is on the job training.
  17. The first time that's exactly what I said. And I think mentioning "Lotus" has a much greater chance of recognition than "Caterham"/
  18. Just had the Caterham over cooling fix performed on my 620S and now I'm able to really enjoy the car. Before the operating temperature was staying at about 50, which made me very cautious about any high revs. Now it's running great and 30 minutes drives are like hitting the gym. I love it. Still getting used to RHD on tiny US back roads, and gauging my distance from the lunatics coming the other way just a little over the center line. And still trying to figure where exactly to look when changing lanes and backing up. Not being an owl, I can only twist my head so far. But anyway, here's my question: How exactly do you described you Caterham to someone who asks "What is that?" My car is registered as a 1957 Lotus 7, but is isn't that. And, it's not a Lotus 7 Replica, because it's a completely unique build that just looks a bit like a 7. And, it's not really a bespoke, custom automobile, because it evolved from a specific brand and model. So why the heck is it? ;-)
  19. Something in the states that would fit an SV chassis? Needs to be indoor and outdoor. Thanks!
  20. If you have seen this already, well, here is it again. ;-) https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/g4277/the-13-best-cars-under-100000-dollars/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpm&utm_campaign=arb_dda_fb_rt_d_i_g4277&src=arb_dda&fbclid=IwAR360l7X8BKmpjthhtaSggv6SBCa0WWnuYzawFrFamOx30gDKmKzJXjSpsY&slide=12
  21. I'd like that and will plan for it. But I'm in a raging battle with Caterham to deliver parts that are ordered to get my car in California sorted out for delivery. Parts were ordered Feb 22 and promised "in a couple days". Several snafus later, I'm still waiting. Looks like there are some good prospects for mechanics in this thread, I'm exploring all of them.
