1. Fair enough, I was assuming the driver was a constant. But my goal on the 19th at the NE meetup in NJ is to get a ride in seven or three, not to be roasted by any. :jester:
2. Those look the business. Nice!
3. I guess I was going off of Jack's first sentence that it was BS..implying that it was driven more. But perhaps you are correct, in that it could be trailered everywhere. Who knows... too rich for my blood anyhow. hehe. \
4. My EVO with upgraded suspension has been wonderful DD, but I envision it would get spanked by the lighter 7s in the corners. Is ~does~ still put a smile on my face and I'll likely keep it in addition to the 7. :hurray: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v193/90/8/17506531/n17506531_30968113_6948.jpg
5. If this is the case, it'd make me refrain from purchasing the car on principal (let alone confidence in the other specs they list about he car). No one likes a liar.
6. 8 cars according to my count as of right now... I'll definitely bring the camera! (hopefully I'll get some video as well)
7. Great article! I now need to get my eyes checked though.
8. If anyone is up for sharing the route, I have knowledge of the area from my years of motorcycling. Whatever the route though, I'm psyched!
9. Thx WestTexasS2k. I can see how my initial post may of come off as saying "a seven can't cut it, why hasn't someone done some aero to it already because top speed is obviously it's weak point." But in actuality, I was more so wondering why the tinkerers of the community haven't tried to slap on some more fiberglass in order to make the car more slippery at speed...not because it needs it at an HPDE, but because they are some real tinkerers on this forum and wonder if anyone has tried it already. But...it is nice to know there won't be much to leave you behind at an HPDE within reason, given that the driver is up to task.
10. The purpose of me buying a seven replica is to replicate what I experienced on both my touring bike and my track bike in one package. To me, "feel" is only part of the experience when driving. If the car was incredibly stable and had tons of traction control gizmos, dead quiet, then it'd be boring (Nissan GTR from what I hear?), even if I was passing everyone at a trackday. But... it is nice to have an easy to drive car to a certain extent to give you confidence. I guess I would like a balance. The way the car feels is important but less so that all out performance on the track as that is what I opted for on the racetrack with my bike (Yamaha R6) with my budget. If I was more about the experience or how the bike felt when I used to ride on the track, then I would of picked up a Ducati of some sort and called it a day. It's certainly not a race, no trophy, but there is benchracing among buddies. I have no desire to trash a $20k+ car any time soon. I fully realize there will always be someone with a "faster" car, more money to throw at it, and better driving skills, but I feel like the 7 is "the great equalizer" w/ regards to my first two points at a bang-for-buck price. As for touring with the seven, as long as it has a decent tank range, good build quality and decent reliability, I am game, regardless of make. I could be driving a hopped up VW Bug and it would still make people approach the car and strike up a conversation. @TheDingo8MyBaby. "Hold off" as in just turn a better lap time. Certainly not like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJIBQw1b%20...%20re=related If I am holding someone up I'm certainly not going to try and "hold them off." I can point someone by like the best of them. :hurray:
11. We have a solution... one of my best buds is going to give up his 1st gen miata for the day on July 10th. Wish her..me...my buddy clutch...good luck! Thanks.
12. I have the light steering with my EVO now... man I can't fathom what it feels like with the stock rear wing removed like some of the owners do. That's an interesting thought...I guess it depends on the track whether u want to maximize your cornering speed or your straightaway speed. Whichever you have more of on a given track I suppose you'd opt for the advantage in that area. Another thought... when passing others on the track, is i tsafe to assume your average 7 will have better corning ability than the "competition?" (I don't race, just HPDEs afterall) If this is the case, wouldn't you opt for the better straight line speed in order to hold off those cars better in the straights that you just toasted in the corners? And if you're going for lap times on an HPDE... I'd think u'd spend more time stuck behind a porker of a car in the corners, thus some of your cornering advantage is taken away when comparing a 7 w/ better top speed vs. better corner speed?
13. I think a lot of these aero mods are for downforce because these cars are running a ton of pwoer vs. your run of the mill seven replica. So actually these downforce aero mods actually create more drag, not reduce it.
14. Very nice... the aero on there looks to add downforce as opposed to make it more slippery, no?
15. The Caterhamd drives defensively as long as he can, haha: http://vhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJIBQw1bpW0&feature=related
16. I'm going to email a bunch of local driving schools in hopes that one of them might teach stick even though their websites don't list it.
17. All auto (I don't blame them) from my research.
18. Got someone in mind? errr.... I mean. nevermind. :blueangel: In all actuality, if all I have to do is teach her stick, I'm a lucky man. She was smiling the entire tire I was cranking through backroads in the Catskills w/ the EVO last month. And she thinks it'd be cool to tour the country in a convertible when retired. Plus she's willing to try camping next month (car camping that is, working on the backpacking hehe) I'd bring her to the NE drive in NJ on the 19th (http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?p=42499) but we haven't met anyone in the 7s community yet, so It'd be weird to stuff her in someone else's car while I'm in another. But hopefully soon. I'll be there for sure!
19. Your megabusa is for sale? Nice car/build log!
20. I guess I can't have my cake (aero on a light kit car) and eat it too (streetable). But those track cars sure look the business.
21. I am I may just have to buy a beater. *sigh* Maybe craigslist?
22. So I'm hooked on getting a seven replica.... been watching all sorts of youtube videos of the underdog (seven) gunning down more expensive makes on the track for months now (here is a great one YouTube - Caterham R500 Vs 996 GT2 - Nurburgring battle lap2), and that combined with the thought of touring backroads in one of these has me sold. But it got me wondering..... If the seven replicas have wonderful power-to-weight, handle on a dime, and generally less expensive (bang-for-buck?) than it's competition, then what holds the car back on the track? It's seems like top end holds the car back vs. the competition on the track if anything. So are there any or why hasn't anyone created aero packages for these cars yet? It wouldn't even have to be a seven replica, just something in the spirit of power-to-weight and great handling w/ a nice aero package. Now I know people will say "buy a radical sr3" or something of the like, but that just won't work. I need something that is streetable as well (read: ground clearance). The aero certainly would help in MPG and tank range while touring as well. So before I slap down my hard-earned money for a seven replica, are there other cars out there to consider that are streetable, have great bang-for buck in performance, power-to-weight, and corner on a dime with a decent aero package? Just curious. thx.
23. ....there's no way in hell she's learning on my EVO with notchy transmission and 340hp to the ground. I don't have any friends with clunker sticks for her to learn on either. She's interested in learning since we started dating and we've been out on a few back road jaunts in the EVO...and with a seven replica coming in the not so distant future, she's interested in learning and possibly driving the seven while touring. http://locostusa.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif I know there are driver's ed. schools, but are there schools specifically for teaching people how to drive stick?
24. US did well today, considering their opponent.
25. BTW, here's a pic of a Stalker in West Haven, CT I got to sit in on 6/5. Man... if it were only insured! http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs635.snc3/31868_562461261136_17506531_32667497_7505483_n.jpg
