Had Chapman built RC planes he might have used foam board.

Built this to interest my grandson, he was very quick to observe "Dusty was orange not red". Kids.

And yes it flies but dislikes our current 40 mph gusts hence his bruised nose.

Don't know about RC models. but Chapman did build an airplane called the MicroLight, Here's a thread discussing it:
