has anybody modified the air intake to get air from in front of the engine instead of from near the firewall if so can you post pict

just trying to do easy things to make the cater ham better and the placement of the air air intake on the 2007 caterham sv with the ford ztec seems sub optimal to me

Do you have the intake set up like this? Cone filter up the back on the standard intake?

If so then yes there are at least 2 threads on here that created a cold air intake box up the back after the battery had been relocated (or shrunk ti a really small one). Interestingly new Caterhams have taken the same approach with a side intake. Its a Duratec so reversed sides but see the black box beyond the heater at the back of the engine bay?

The the exterior cold air intake is this discreet tear drop shape on the bonnet itself just behind the logo:

Could you buy the Duratec pieces and slightly modify to reverse side for Zetec? I bet you could.

As for the difference in getting a proper cold air intake. I can confirm that I added one to my CSR last April and it made a big difference in engine pickup and brought the intake temperature per the ECU back in line with what I consider to be normal.

Here is a link to intakes for a standard Zetec http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?1768-Cold-air-intake-methods. The picture with the yellow car is a SVT Zetec and the intake plumbing is different. I know forum member Athens 7 had a modified intake for his SVT that relocated the battery and built a box to isolate the intake with a hose supplying cold air to the intake. It was a nice set up.
