slomove Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Just found when I was trying to install a new water pump for my Contour based Zetec ZX1 that the Contour pump spins the wrong way (CCW). And the pumps with the proper CW spinning direction apparently came from a European Ford Escort that was never sold in the US. Aargh, now I am f%c*#d.....and I need a new pump very soon (PNW2007 tour coming up) Does anybody have such a special pump, by chance??? Please???? Gert
slngsht Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Gert, that sucks! Is it because the accessory belt spins the pump the opposite direction? You should probably post this in one of the UK sites.
geewiz1 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I have the European Zetec with the original WP and Raceline pulley sitting in the corner of my garage It’s still installed on the 1.8L Zetec I hade in my Caterham for 5 years I haven’t tried to take it off but would imagine its pretty easy. I replaced the engine with a 2.0 one the last winter and I used an electric water pump Davis Craig it the brand name it seams to work well why don’t you try that its easy to do? If your interested in the pump let me know I also have the RaceLine lower aluminum tube if you need it. slomove Posted July 30, 2007 Author Posted July 30, 2007 Hi Graeme, I really appreciate your offer!!!! Right now I am still trying to find the spare part with the usual suspects, that means Texas Motor Works and MSI. Another option is a relative in Germany who is auto mechanic and should be able to locate this part quickly. But, if that fails I may contact you the next few days. I am just hesitant to ask you to tear a complete engine apart, just for the friggin' pump. Regards, Gert Burkhardt
slomove Posted July 30, 2007 Author Posted July 30, 2007 Yes!!!! :hurray: Problem solved (at least I hope until tested out). I was pointed to a place that rebuilds water pumps. New bearings, seals and shaft, all cleaned and bead-blasted the same day. Just need to install, adjust cam timing and test drive
