rrdusek Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 being pretty new to my Birkin, there's so much I don't know yet. i'm slowly learning, doing simple things first. the clear windwings that slip on 2 short posts along the windshield were not on my car when I got it. I put them on and there is nothing to keep them adjusted. they flap around as they please. how are they supposed to be locked into position? I have a few ideas, but I really should know the proper solution first, before I start modifying things.
rrdusek Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13304&stc=1ok, let's try it another way. as my car is set-up this plexiglass wing drops over these two pins attached to the windscreen tubing. what I can't figure out is what holds it on, to prevent it from lifting up and flying away, and what keeps it at the angle I set it at to deflect the wind?
TWard Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I have those on my birkin as well, there should be a little bumper on the bottom part that will rest on the side of the cab. There is no locks or pins to speak of they just hang there. Mine don't flap around at all. there id a little nylon sleeve that goes over the pins though. I could take a picture later if you would like?
rrdusek Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 I would love to see a pic, that would help me a lot. thank you for helping.
Alfonse Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 They're not adjustable. They just sit there. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13305&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13306&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13307&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13308&stc=1
rzempel Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 After I nearly lost one (it had worked its way up and nearly fell off), I wrapped zip ties around the hinges. Randall
MightyMike Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 When I had my Birkin, I used picture frame wire to secure the hinges. It was hardly noticeable.
rrdusek Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 thanks everyone, i'm going to work on it. alfnose- that white car with black accents looks beautiful!
The Stig Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 My Caterham had very small pieces of white Velcro on the tip of the wing and the car. Enough to grip lightly although they do just stay in place anyway.
nick47 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 The hinges have to be tight. The nylon sleeve TWard mentions would have to help. My wind wings were from a Triumph, and the hinges are very tight. It takes quite an effort to change the angle. They haven't moved in 4 years.
Tbox56 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Not real clear in the picture but you might be missing a plastic sleeve that fits between the female and male parts of the hinge. We also use a zip tie to make sure they don't lift off. Tom
