PalaceOfFun
Hi Guys, I have a 2010 Birkin and am trying to find out who manufactured the steering box. Does anyone know? Thank you.
wemtd
I think it may have been a modified VW rack&pinion. Have you checked with dick brink? I think he was the main importer back then. If not birkin direct in Eagle will know
Cody
Tom Carlin in Colorado can help you. He’s the current importer and is an expert in all things Birkin.
BirkinBernie
Hi! I'm wondering why you are asking? I have a Birkin manufactured in 2000 that I purchased as the basic kit. The steering rack, best I could figure out, is out of a South African Ford Escort from the '70's or '80's. You looking for parts or ? If you get a definitive answer as to the origin of the rack, please share the info here! Bernie Birkin chasis BIY1877
Alfonse
I replaced the boots on mine this winter. Tom Carlin found a universal set that fits great. Let me, or probably Tom, know if you need the part number.
speedwagon
On my superformance s1, I replaced the tie rod boots with shock boots that were bought at NAPA. somewhere there is the part number. remember it being vw and the cost to buy new was at the time about $40 ea for something that rotted out in about 5 years. since the s1 was made in south Africa too and possibly by the same people or at least known to them. Any how the original part #on the boot traced back to some vw product. Since the new superformance does not support the s1 they are not forthcoming with source info. will try to look for the folder today. john
Alfonse
For anyone who might need them, the boots Tom recommended, and that worked great on both sides (they are different) are the [h=2]Steering - Rack and Pinion Bellows | 03670 - Dorman Products[/h]
