A day at the junkyard! Looking for disk brakes!

On the way home from work this morning .. the weather was just right for a stop at my favorite junkyard .. Pullapart Recyclers .. So I was determined to look and pull the rear axle from the 1979 Supra that is there. Well with a little determination I finally "grounded" it from the car .. and then discovered that it does not have a LSD diff. So now my question is whether a later Supra LSD will fit this axle. If so .. I will go back and get it maybe tomorrow. The goal is to replace the rear axle of my Rotus with this new one which features disk brakes.

 

Then I found a 1987 Corolla with rear disk brakes. :hurray: I've been waiting and searching Pullapart for months just waiting for one of these cars to show up! So I began the process of yanking the brackets so that I can replace the drums on my '87 Celica Convertible with disk brakes. This afternoon I rented a puller so I can get the rusty disks off.

 

I have lived with drums on many cars .. but now it is time to replace the drums with disks!

celicasupra.com is great! I found and printed the Toyota axle codes .. so I was able to verify that the 1980 Supra axle is indeed the heavier F axle .. and the diff is not limited slip. I see that you have posted there .. Rotus8.

 

Then this morning I went back to Pullapart Recyclers and pulled the two rear hub assemblies for my '87 Celica and grabbed the rear axle. Now all deposited at the mechanic's shop. Next to call autozone and get some new rotors .. and see if the calipers are any good. Plus I gotta trim all that metal off the axle and get ready for some Rotus brackets. I wonder if Dennis Hedges can supply the brackets? My mechancs can probably fabricate metal if he cannot.

Wait, I have brand new rear rotors and pads... half price to you.

Well you know the saying .. one in the hand is worth two in the bush .. (12 hours drive away) ...

 

I'm still surprised that Robert did not grab yours .. Now that I know how to interpret the Toyota axle codes .. it's just a matter of time before I find an LSD in the junkyards.

 

Sure .. I'll take the pads and rotors .. Send them to me with the Corona ball joint ...
