The windshield of my Birkin was already looking like the lunar surface from all the flying rocks creating tiny pits. Actually, I noticed much of the damage was done while track driving, don't know exactly why. It is beginning to impede visibility and on the PNW tour I had a rock make a dime size shell-crack. Sounds like a new sheet of glass to me.....

Now, where do I go to have a custom cut sheet of the laminated auto safety glass made? I don't really want the heating wires anymore. Do I just go to a regular auto glass repair place? Or are there specialty sources? Sorry about the dumb question if that should be obvious.

Thanks,

Gert

Gert, there should be local places that do that. I was looking for replacing mine at some point, and found a local place that does custom cut windshields for hot rods, etc... I think they wanted $90 and a couple of days.

Mazda, do you know if when they do that they mark them with the DOT AS1 designation? I was kind of keeping this in the back of my mind in the event that NYS pukes on my windshield (figuratively, that is)

I don't know, but I can look them up again on Monday and ask.

Don't go out of your way. I can call up a local place here and ask myself. I just figured I'd try to mooch off of any information you happened to already have. :D

My local glass shop will quickly cut a new windshield for me and mark it as DOT. Costs about $35 total, takes a couple of hours from the time I drop off the pattern.
