My first ever post from Linux!

I just installed Linux on Virtual PC.

Don't quite know what to do with the new OS... Feel like a fish out of water at the moment.

At least I can still browse the forum

I know from which you speak!

I started using Linux 10 years ago. It took a while to stop scratching my head every time I wanted to do something.

Now I use it exclusively at home and actually get confused when trying to do anything on Windows.

Stick with it! You'll figure it out.

Congrats, Mazda!

I've been running Linux more or less exclusively for about 7 or 8 years. Most of that time has been on Slackware.

Not absolutely everything works straight out of the box, and you have to pay a little attention to what peripherals are linux friendly, but you can do most anything you can on Windows and once you start to figure out where stuff is on the filesystem and start to become familiar with shell scripting, it's a hell of a lot easier to troubleshoot, IMO.

What distro are you running? I'm using Ubuntu exclusively at home, and run windows with VMware when I need to - strangely enough, Windows running in VMware inside Ubuntu seems more stable than the Windows I have to use at work!

The Gutsy Gibson Ubuntu is pretty sweet looking.

I have to run Linux Scientific for a software package that needs it on one of my contracts. Haven't really had a chance to play with it yet.

These days, I'm mostly Fedora, just because it is what I am most familiar with. Next time I upgrade, I'll probably go with CentOS.

In the past I ran Redhat, Slackware, Gentoo, SuSE, CentOS, Mandrake and a few others.

I also used to be pretty good with Free BSD but have fallen out of practice with it. Maybe someday I'll pick it back up again.
