It pulls the clutch pedal toward the floor enough to keep the clutch cable from going slack so the pedal will return to the same position. Attachment is above the pedal pivot to where the clutch master would be. I've not seen a spring on an S2 brake pedal.

 

To hook the spring, a tab from sheet metal or a loop of 12ga wire can be bolted on to the master bracket.

I believe most S2 were hydraulic clutch. Do those require a preload spring?

The spring inside the clutch master must be sufficient with no cable friction to overcome.

Thanks for all of the replies regarding pedal return springs on the S2. Yes, hydraulic clutch for a 2000e gearbox / twincam installation. I prefer having secondary return springs for pedals, probably an unnecessary habit left over from racing, so will figure something out.
