1999 Caterham Seven S3 – Factory Built / VVC / De Dion for sale in Raleigh, NC

I’m offering my 1999 Caterham Seven S3 for sale. This is a genuine factory-built Caterham with the Rover 1.8L K-Series VVC, Ford Type 9 five-speed and De Dion rear suspension.

It has approximately 28,000 miles, a clean North Carolina title in my name identifying it as a 1999 Caterham 7, and excellent documentation dating back to new, including the original Caterham order and factory build sheets, MOTs, maintenance receipts and records of upgrades over the years.

• Factory-built 1999 Caterham Seven S3
• Rover 1.8L K-Series VVC
• Ford Type 9 five-speed
• De Dion rear suspension / Sierra differential
• Stainless 4-2-1 exhaust
• FIA rollbar
• Lowered driver’s floor
• Arrowstar springs
• Caterham upgraded front brakes
• Factory carbon-fiber dashboard
• Motogadget tachometer and speedometer
• Momo quick-release steering wheel
• Carbon-fiber aeroscreen and SPA F1 mirrors
• 13-inch wheels
• 205 Toyo R888Rs rear / 185 Nankang NS2Rs front
• Ford Pacifica Blue

The car is currently set up with the carbon aeroscreen, but the factory windshield, doors, hood and bikini top are included, so it can easily be returned to a more traditional road/touring configuration. Also included are a Softbits for Sevens wind deflector, fitted rain cover, second aeroscreen and several useful spares.

The Swiss Modern/Mondrian-inspired graphics are removable vinyl, so a new owner can retain the current look or return it to traditional Pacifica Blue. I have the original emblem for the back of the car.

The car starts, runs and drives well and delivers exactly what I think a traditional Seven should: light, mechanical, rev-happy and extremely direct.

It’s a 27-year-old car and the paint has some age-related patina, so I wouldn’t describe it as concours, but it presents very well.

Older Caterhams can sometimes have complicated provenance or registration issues. This one has documentation going back to new and is already properly titled in North Carolina in my name as a 1999 Caterham 7. The original UK registration plates have also remained with the car.

For those wondering about S3 fit, I’m nearly 6’2” and approximately 260 lbs and fit in it. The lowered driver’s floor helps considerably.

Why am I selling? I’ve enjoyed this car enough that I’m staying with Caterhams. I’ve  found another Seven with a more track-focused specification. Rather than substantially modifying this one, I’d prefer to pass it along as the well-sorted, traditional VVC-powered Seven it is.

$32,500 OBO — Raleigh, North Carolina

I’m happy to provide additional photos, documentation, cold-start/running video or details to serious buyers.

Some photos of the windshield and doors.   Sorry, I don't have any photos with the hood or bikini top on it.
