Dextmech Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I have a 85 Caterham Live Axle car. Would this possible be a wheel bearing and how hard are they to do. I have an Ital/marina axle. I replaced the big bushing at the rear 500 miles ago along with all others around the live axle. No clunking there. Also. Has anyone ever had their driveshaft loosen up (the bolts) I am getting a slightly loud clunk when touching and releasing the gas at 30-50 (probably cause at high speeds I could not hear). I have not driven the car, but plan on getting into it later this week. Thank you
Dave W Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I would think what you are hearing is back-lash out of spec. To much clearance between the ring gear and pinion gear. Try turning the drive shaft with the trans out of gear. You should be able to see and feel if that's the problem. Bearings going bad, usually make rumbling noise Vs a clunk.
