EburgE
I think I mounted the cycle wings too far forward. (They are not actually mounted to the wingstays yet, but my fasteners have been bonded to the wings.) What is the correct distance between the leading edge of the wing and the front wingstay? This happened because my wings came unpainted and thus did not have the markings. I just split the difference, i.e., centered the wings on the wingstays. Now, looking at pictures of other cars, I think they should be offset toward the rear. :banghead: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1814453292_WingPlacement.JPG
Mandurath
I think they are all slightly different this one is similar to yours in placement http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/575773806_P8120009.JPG lots of other pics of similar ones, seems like more of the race oriented ones I have pics of the fenders are farther forward
slomove
It is all a trade-off. Move the wings forward and you will collect more larger rocks in the cockpit (except if you run side-screens). Move them backwards and you will get more smaller rocks on the windscreen/helmet. The forward position is rumored to have an aerodynamic advantage (maybe better to say less aerodynamic penalty.....). I have seen a race car with left and right wings swapped to get them really in a forward position. But that may all be superstition. You may want to put them in the most aesthetically pleasing position? Gert I got mud flaps on my cycle wings.... http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/327911656_RubberSkirts.jpg

As you can see I made my fenders to try and keep as much debree from hitting the passanger compartment as possible but you still get pelted with some objects and will definatly get sprayed with water if making a turn through a puddle so my sugestion is also place them where you find the fenders the most appealing to you. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1936177854_DSCN1820.JPG My rear fenders are made to eat cones from time to time. :jonautox:
breezy7
I measured 2 inches from the front edge of the wing to the front of the wingstay and about 2 1/4 inches to the fasteners . Where are the rear fasteners bonded on you wings? Would turning them front to back work?
EburgE
Thanks! I feel better already. I think mine are equal, about 3.25" overhang ahead and behind. I'll probably go with it the way they are and mod them later if they bother me. I like the mud flap idea too.
S1Steve
http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/428628374_Besty,Steve,Abby, S1 in the driveway Oct 13 2006 017.jpg Hal, I think your fenders look great, I sent a photo just so you can see how others fit. Cycle fenders keep most, some, alittle , stones from hitting you. But thats the fun of it. I am enjoying your build, nice work.
