slngsht
Posted on behalf of RKell Hello, I live in Alexandria, VA and I have just bought a 2003 SLR that is registered as such in California. Can any of you share any wisdom on registration in Virginia or Maryland (where I also have a house). I have read thru the registration provisions for both states and it does not look easy. The car that I bought has an aeroscreen, but I think that it would be easy enough to add a windshield and wipers. But what about bumpers and smog testing, dot lights and such. Many thanks for any help or suggestions. Randy
slngsht
Hi, and welcome aboard. My car is registered in MD, but as pre- 1978. Therefore it is considered a historic, and none of the above apply (no inspections of any kind - ever - not even when selling). Reach out to the following forum members (the ones with * don't usually log on, but are very active se7eners in the area with newer registered caterhams - email them using the forum) MichaelD* - Caterham in MD 944n914* (Scott) - Caterham in VA Stevet - recently sold his Caterham in VA EdburgE - Just finished a Caterham in MD - in process of registration There are more, but this should give you a good start. locostv8
I would believe you would want to register in VA. VA just passed a component car law that is very good. The car is registered as what it most looks like followed by (replica). I bought a folder off Ebay showing the 57 7 which will be used at registration and inspection time. The advantage is that smog and equipment follow the year of the replica, I plan on using 58 since that was the start of the 7 America. I doubt any state inspector would have any knowledge as to what was required on a 58 Lotus kit car and no smog. The only downside is that mileage is limited to 5k per year according to your odometer. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LOTUS-7-SEVEN-SPEC-SHEET-Brochure-1957-1958-1959-1960_W0QQitemZ200203318612QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
