With my car on the road now, I finally get to use the gauge unit for real.

 

Here is my experience so far:

 

1- it's only a 4" display - very small. I have one of the Beta units. New units are now 4.3" - similar to the typical GPS units.

2- the standard skins, while useful for diagnostics, were too hard to read as the primary gauge in an open top car.

3- I had some troubles with my unit (understandable since it was Beta). They provided excellent service, and the unit is running flawlessly.

4- It's amazing how much of a punch this unit packs: Excellent scanner, including manufacturer specific PIDs, MP3 player, data logger (including interfacing with external stand=alone signals such as temp, pressure, accelerometer, etc..., GPS module (extra $), etc...

5- The touch screen is top notch.

6- Its interface is customizable. Right now I'm running a skin one of the users posted that's inspired by the S2000

 

Here is a closeup of my dash now:

 

You can toggle between 3 different main gauge views... I have setup 2 so far:

1st one... most of it is self explanatory. PMDR is batt, VSPR is miles since last clearing of engine codes (I do not have an odometer)

2nd one... 4 gauges: top 2 are short term fuel trim for left and right bank. bottom 2 are long term fuel trim

readings in the middle are o2 sensor readings, spark advance and manifold pressure.

 

Each gauge is customizable.

 

It can also do histograms and log data to a SD card in a few different formats. All this by just connecting to the OBDII connector - not even a seperate power wire. Single cable for gauges.

Ummm .. wow! OBDII what's that? Where do I get OBDII out of my setup? (Rotus seven with dual carbs)

That's pretty cool.... just wish I knew what half that stuff meant;)

 

I'd like to have a set up that gave me tach & speedometer and then switched to a gauge screen measuring something that went out of the parameters (and maybe a little flasher in the corner to get my attention). That way I'd only need to see what's important when it's important; kind of like the old idiot lights but with pertinent information.... guess that would include fuel below a quarter tank too.

I believe that feature is there under "Global logging and monitoring", but have not had a chance to play with it. The idea is to raise an alarm on a signal that's NOT being displayed. I would use that feature too
