ECU Wiring, 100 Ohm Resistor

I'm in the process of hooking up my Innovative LC-1 to my recently updated Emerald ECU. As part of the installation I have to install a 100 ohm resister in line to the Emerald ECU Aux input. I'm looking at 100 ohm resistors and see various wattage ratings. How do I determine what wattage to use? And what's the best way to hook the resistor to the wiring? Do I cut the ends of the resistor about 1/4"-1/2" long, solder the wiring to the ends, and cover the whole thing with heat shrink tubing?

Bruce,

I guess this is probably for ECU protection. As it is an input, a 1/8watt or 1/4watt will work fine. I'd suggest 'in-line' solder joints with about 1/4" overlap of the wire & strands.

 

Put heatshrink over everything with 1/2" beyond each solder joint. The joints should not be mechanically loaded.

 

How's that machine running? Getting any usable weather up there yet?

Cherik/Bob - From the Emerald K3 manual: "The LC-1 outputs are quite sensitive and can become unstable if connected to a capacitive load. The inline resistor buffers the LC-1 from the ECU input signal filters." From what I've read you can fry the aux circuits on the LC-1 if you don't install the resistor. When I went to the electronics store they only had 1/2 watt resistors so that's what I'm going with for now.

 

"How's that machine running? Getting any usable weather up there yet?" - Unfortunately Cherik, I'm a little behind on my exhaust and ECU upgrades so it's still in the garage. I just finished putting the fuel cell back together after inspecting the bladder, foam, and replacing all the gaskets. I hope to have the ECU wired up this weekend and take it to a local fabricator on Monday to finalize the fitting of the exhaust. And we've had some decent weather lately so I've been using my backup (a '64 MGB) to take to work and to take my yellow lab swimming. He fits a lot better in the MGB!
