Mondo
Most Ultralites don't have a windscreen but I eventually want to put a top for shade on (and I have the weatherkit in storage). Had a couple issues... my screen is a couple inches higher than normal and the bracket holding the screen was mounted very low (where the bottom wind deflector bracket now is) causing it to flex. Plus the wind really whips around to the side of the face. Haven't taken it out yet (raining at the moment) but I should now be able to go over 75 and hopefully not get quite as buffeted. slngsht
those reflectors should help, but if you REALLY want to cut the buffeting back, I think the screen needs to come lower. I think one of the causes for the buffeting is the wind hits the rear fenders straight on, and a portion of it comes into the cabin. Just my .02... Mondo
I don't know about the wind coming off the rear fenders but I was on a dirty road the other day and a ton of pebbles bounced into cab. Actually, the most bothersome is the wind coming around the side so I'm hopeful...
slomove
t....I think the screen needs to come lower. ....... 2 cents more: I believe some unofficial established wisdom is that the screen itself is the culprit. The wings are maybe contributors. It is kind of understandable since the screen deflects a fat air stream upward over the cockpit. Like on any good airplane wing such upward acceleration creates a slight vacuum (also creating lift) that wants to be filled from somewhere. That would be mainly the "door" cutouts and explains the positive effect of the doors and half-doors. Add to that the vortexes created by the windscreen's and other part's edges. It also explains why Brookland style screens and aeroscreens have less apparent buffeting, because they just don't displace that much air and create less vacuum. I found the small wind deflectors to be only minimally effective. At the end they only help moving the buffeting zone a bit backward/outward. To get the turbulence out of your face you need something more substantial. I made large transparent half doors for my car that help a lot to increase the "quiet zone" and get the buffeting out of my face. I can wear a hat at any legal speed but even then I still feel the turbulence in the back of my neck. On the other hand, all that is part of the experience... Mondo
I'm sure your right and I'm not expecting a lot... just enough to stop hitting me in the ear;) Your doors are pretty trick. Update: Drove to he gas station and got up to 80 a couple times. It does what I hoped... while of course not dead air, I don't get the air whipping around the side of the windshield and hitting me in the side of the head. I might not need earplugs for the wind noise anymore;) Edited May 2, 2009 by Mondo

Mondo
Just a few mile drive to the gas station. I don't get that full force of air whipping around hitting my left ear. No illusions... still breezy
DB6
WW2 flight helmet and goggles( hey get the sheepskin jacketin the chilly climes) u may look like a plonker but your ears will be warm, your eyes clear and your belly toasty. with regard to rock chips, fieldmice, and whatever else the road throws in your face, never noticed tht much diff with all 3 7,s I have owned. I think the aero side screens help, half doors with the side bulges help, ...but I always end up picking shit out of my hair no matter what. By the way , all the cars i have had were full front wings V cycles so I have no input on that set up, I would guess they are worse??? anybody.....>?
