solder_guy Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 NYTimes: with new hybrid and electric cars running so quietly, some automakers are thinking of adding speakers in the bumpers to simulate the Vroom of engine noises. Just like cell phones have ring tones, "car tones may be an option for new cars! :auto:
scannon Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Think about a Toyota Prius with Corvette sound track! I drove an all electric Peugeot 206 in Paris a few years ago. Had to watch the peds carefully as they would step off the curb in front of it because they didn't hear it coming.
MHKflyer52 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Had to watch the peds carefully as they would step off the curb in front of it because they didn't hear it coming. When GM first came out with their Electric car back in the early 90's as a test bed they had to incorporate a type of whistle or humm in the rims / hubcaps as they found that people in the city would do what you stated "step off the curb in front of it because they didn't hear it coming" it is still a problem with even the Prius that is why they almost immediately start the engine when pulling away from a dead start.
