slngsht
I started this topic over at the Yahoo! Rotus group, and there seems to be some interest. So here's a thread to continue the discussion... We can upload pictures, etc... here, and keep the conversation from getting mixed up in emails and other messages. The picture that started this discussion was this: http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/2005-11-09_143147_wa7004e.jpg So far, Don (dtelite) introduced himself and his company as being able to build something like this, and we've had some good suggestions from Dan Owens as a start to our wishlist of design features. danowens
It might be good business to offer a similar top to Caterham and Lotus owners since that's bound to be a much larger group hence more production/lower cost etc etc

Don, how would you attach the top to the car?
dtelite
It's nice to see that there is some interest out there. There may be more once others get the message. For those who don't have any experiance in fiberglass construction here is how it works. Starting with a design, the engineering of the structure must be done. How the doors open and how they become water tight when closed. Attachment points to the car. will it clear the roll bar. how many of the cars will it fit? Etc. Once this design is complete then a full scale pattern of each part must be made. The pattern must be exact so that doors and windows fit and the whole thing fits the car. From the pattern fiberglass molds are built and in the molds the final fiberglass parts are made I like danowens idea of getting his designer friend to sketchup some ideas for styling and to get rid of the blind spot. I'm not so sure about the paint ball thing. As time allows I will work up an estimate of the cost and then we will know if this is a practical undertaking. I like this forum but we need to keep the rest of the Yahoo group informed to encourage interest. Don
solder_guy
I too have been intrigued by this picture .. So I'm pleasantly surprised to see that this could be a true option! (Now where would I store it during the summer months??) Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
slngsht
Sounds great. We can continue to put info on the Yahoo group as we progress forward (perhaps once a week if there is progress). I also know of one Rotus owner in Hagerstown who may be interested. Ball park pricing is really important to get early on, so we can gauge interest better. Don, If you have any info on other body panels, please start a separate thread and let us know what you can do, and at what cost. Also, if you have a web site, post it up. solder_guy
Q: How do you access the gas tank when this top is on? Might be a little bit of a challenge! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
slngsht
I finally got a new camera... here is a shot of the existing door hinges and corner of the windshield frame on my car. Let me know if anyone needs other pics. http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/2005-11-20_230038_CIMG0014.JPG

slngsht
no progress that I know of... the Rotus version didn't really go anywhere. Not enough interest I guess, because so few are around.
