SPEAR
Hi all, I came across your site via one of your members commenting on an old youtube video of mine, I have been developing my Westfield and finally won the Spanish TIME ATTACK 2009. I am a keen petrol head who used to trackday/club race motorbikes and now I race my SBD race prepared 2.0 westfield in (pro series) time attack events and timed trackdays. I am also about to join the Andalucian Classic Golf GTI touring car championship, to learn about racing front wheel drive cars, which will be a totally new experience. It will be a slow journey up the grid Im sure, as Im used to rear wheel seven power and using the accelerator to steer the car, but will try and get up the front asap and will upload videos of this as well in the future, for those that have interest in all cars/motorsport. My passion is my Westfield and I race against lots of the worlds fastest cars at these events including lots of race prepared (500 bhp) Evo's, Subaru's, full works Clio/renault cup touring cars, BMW M3's, GT3 porsche's, and Caterham R500. The superlight R500 used to be a tad faster but after some recent tweaks Im now slightly faster round a circuit than the R500. I have enjoyed viewing lots of your 7's videos and have attached my youtube page so you can see some of mine aswell, hope you enjoy. PS did you ever get TOP GEAR in the end its a great show in the UK? SPEAR
slngsht
Hi, and welcome aboard. Some of us get Top Gear through BBC America on some cable networks.
SPEAR
Hi Slingshot, I thought they were going to start a US version?
slngsht
It didn't work out. There is a thread around here somewhere about that.
DeanG
Very nice. The track seems a bit scary in places but great scenery. Nice clean passes.
Hank
Very nice car. Great driving there. You make it look like everyone else is driving slow. Congrats on the win! You are definitely a braver man than I am to race a Westfield without a full cage and arm restraints. :willy_nilly:
SPEAR
Hi Guys, Thanks for the welcome, yes I will update my youtube page (in signature) with any new Golf GTI racing vids and if I get any good sevens video, I will load it onto USA7's site. Re: racing without full cage, I know what you mean, maybe more stupidity than bravery especially around the twisty circuits in Europe. The Ascari Race Resort/circuit is meant to be one of the best circuits in the world, built and owned by a dutch billionaire with all the best bits of tracks from all around the world. It is the same one that the STIG from TOP GEAR likes to resort in, (if you ever saw that episode). A very desirable elite track to race, they want members to pay 130,000 euros for a 20 year membership and all race car hire is extra, however, Im lucky enough to race there in both the TIME ATTACK events and soon again with the Andalucian Classic GTI Touring Cars. Ascari is a very fast twisty track with blind raised bends, adverse cambers, corkscrews and hairpins with concrete barriers etc.etc. It's obviously the concrete barriers that stick in the mind when rushing into a hairpin at full tilt strapped into a yellow (0-60 in 4.0 secs) plastic bathtub, But wow what a rush. Its taken the car a couple of years to set up properly for track racing, and I'm almost there now. End result: 0-60 in 4.0 secs, amazing handling and extreme fun. . Edited February 9, 2010 by SPEAR
Spaz
Hello and welcome. Top Gear is awesome. We are a bit behind here, Season 12 just came out on DVD I think last month. I just got my free copy today from my hook-up
Hank
Superb specs, SPEAR. How much does she weigh?
SPEAR
Hi Hank, I have never weighed the yellow peril, the car is striped of anything not needed except lights, as I still sometimes use it on the road. The car is made up of lightweight race parts and I have always thought it was around 600kg, but friends that have almost identical Westfields and R500's that struggle to keep up on the track reckon my car is closer to 500kg, so somewhere between the two poss? I have not meet a car on track that I could not out drag or at least match on acceleration down a straight, sometimes this is probably due to my car coming out of the corner quicker onto the straight than heavier cars, but I regularly compete and beat high spec. Porsche turbos, GT3's, works touring cars, BMW M3's and Mitsubishi Evo's, many of them with 400-500 bhp. Even on larger tracks, when they all thought they were going to power past me on the straight, but to everyones surprise including my own, I pulled away at the start of the straight, was equal half way along and they were all over the back or beside me, by the end, however, then I would pull away again through all of the twisty bits. I dare say however that somewhere as big as Silverstone or Jerez they would get past me as my little rocket powered bathtub runs out of beans at about 135mph.
