SkinnyG Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I just picked up a decibel meter, and decided to see just how loud my Locost is cruising down the highway. 4AGE motor, Dynomax Super Turbo exhaust exiting before the driver's wheel. Cruising 100km/h, out in the open, no vehicles in proximity. Basic windscreen, no wind wings or weather gear. 119dB. And that's basically wind noise. I did not do a full-throttle test. That's permanent hearing loss in about 7 seconds (how poetic).
WestTexasS2K Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Kevin and I both have a 30 40 percent hearing loss from the first year one lap both in the right ear exhaust side on Ultralite.
MHKflyer52 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Glad I can read as I don't think I can hear anymore out of my left ear.....just jokeing....I wear foam ear plugs and actually give people that ride in the car a pair just because of the noise plus it makes the ride a lot more comfortable I do belive.
WestTexasS2K Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Ear plugs are must for highway speeds around town I don't use them.
WestTexasS2K Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Wow I don't think mine was that loud at 60km/h
SkinnyG Posted June 21, 2010 Author Posted June 21, 2010 My Nissan Hardbody is 102dB with the windows down at 100km/h.
Bster13 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I did hearing damage w/ motorcycling in my earlier years... by the end of my riding days you couldn't force me on a bike w/out plugs. I think they increase my endurance on long driving days and improve my concentration on the track. Fefinitely a worthwhile piece of gear to have.
