JohnK Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I'm all for building new cool things, but who was it that said "There are some things that man should not tamper with." ? -- Intel revealed their aircraft-style black box last week at their research showcase in Santa Clara, California. The device can send video footage of driver's behavior during an accident to the police and insurance company. http://www.physorg.com/news197564478.html
Sevnn Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 As long as the data is only used to determine fault in a motor vehicle accident, I'm ok with it. Tire marks and intuition are not reliable means to determine who caused an accident. If I was driving too fast, changed lanes without giving proper clearance, etc, then I should be held at fault, as long as the other car didn't do something as well.
slomove Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Some cars are already recording the last five seconds. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/19/AR2010051903298.html
MHKflyer52 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 If you have O-Star in your car (any GM product) it is all being monitored and has been for sometime now besides most ECU's have the ability top store a lot of different information that has been used to determine different things like max speed and G-forces exerted on the vehicle.
JohnK Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 I really expected cries of "Big Brother" and government intrusion. Where did all you guys with practical and rational responses come from? Maybe Intel should have included some features to record long-term climate data to stir up some emotion.

But as sad as it is the Big Brother impact of the car computers is miniscule compared to the traces you leave with your cellphone, you credit card, social networks including this site and other online activity. So, in a way, I agree but I guess we are getting used to it. Welcome in the brave new world ;-) Now, who is all reading this post?
