Mondo Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 (edited) Well it appears my VSS error code & limp mode issues have finally been resolved. And the stock S2000 motor, with AEM ECU, makes pretty good horsepower. Got this email today and pick it up next week. Should of taken it to Bisi a long time ago. He took care of some issues that my local dynoshop screwed up (long story)... From everything I've seen and heard, Bisimoto is a professional top notch place. Anyway, I'm very happy. WestTexasS2K Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Mondo glad you finally got that grimlin out. Did you go with 1052u with the wide band sensor or plain 1052. Power level is great 216 rwhp that up about 16 up over a stock ecu. Dyno tuners can screw your car up in a hurry if they aren't familiar with the system. Since the s2000 is so widely tuned I would think most would be fairly proficient with it. That is the main reason we use Kenny Tran he is so good he makes it look easy. A few hours from start to finish. Well now you can really enjoy the car. That limp mode can be frustrating.
Mondo Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 (edited) To give you an idea of the previous tuner... he blew out my catalytic converter (not really needed but still) and messed up the AEM computer. To say I was pissed would be an understatement. Kind of mad at myself for not wanting to drive 3 hours to Bisimoto in the first place. But I felt like you, thought he could handle a stock honda motor. Luckily, I bought the AEM from Bisi and he had it repaired for free. He works with AEM and does a lot of the basic tunes for them... the ones that come pre-programmed to get you to the dyno shop for example. This tune was without the wide band hooked up (just plug and play to make sure everything worked)... hopefully that will be Monday. Don't know how much more he can get with extra fine tuning. I don't know what type it is.. basically AEM's in line Wide band sensor (didn't want another gauge in the dash): http://www.aemonly.com/wideband-air-fuel-85/aem-inline-wideband-controller-2080.html Loren, I mentioned your work on Mojito and Kenny Tran's assistance. Bisi and Kenny know each well. Honda recently gave Bisi one of their new 2011 CR-Zs to play with and debut at this year's SEMA. He designed/installed new crank, pistons, headwork etc along with turbo... probably shouldn't say more about the car but it's a pretty wicked motor. I also saw someone's S2000 motor he's working on and he hopes to get around 600hp with turbo set up. He said the S2000 head is super efficient and only needs stronger valve springs etc.. no machine work. Well now I know where to go when 216hp gets boring (and I have a big chunk of spare change). WestTexasS2K Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Kevin had Kenny install titanium valves and new springs when he built the motor. The heads are fantastic stock Kenny just cleaned them a little.
s2k7 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I got the same identical horsepower using Aem Ems 1052U.
Mondo Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Sorry, thought you were asking what sensor I bought. I have the "AEM Series 2 Plug and Play Standalone ECU EMS 30-6052". It doesn't come with the UEGO sensor.

Sevnn Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I'm considering buying an older 1020 series AEM from Chuck. Anyone know if it would be work with the tunes you guys are using (if someone is willing to share)? Getting my car to a qualified tuner won't be an easy proposition but tweaking a known tune might be possible.
WestTexasS2K Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Might need to call AEM about the 1020 and see what the differences are between it and newer models. Since Chuck had his on a 2.0 it should be a plug and play. You could tweak a little for elevation and intake and exhaust differences. The last AEM tune I got the file from the tuner so we could change the map during 1 Lap adjusting for elevation changes. You can go in and highlite the wholes map and then plus or minus a percentage change. I prefer with the close loop so it adjust automatically. It's not s big deal if you stay in the same area most of the time.
Mondo Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 I'll ask about a copy when I pick up the car this week. He asked me if I wanted open or closed loop (he said he could dial in the open loop more precisely). I chose closed loop (always get those confused) as I want the computer to adjust for elevation and heat... can't imagine it's that much of a difference with the ECU making changes.
WestTexasS2K Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 The newer model might have that option where it looks at the factory sensor instead of a stand alone.
