MichaelD
Here are some photos of the finished roll cage. “The devil is in the details” as they say. You can tell when you see this up close. 16 bolts keep in place or allow you to remove it when needed. Kitcat
Michael: How much extra weight, counting bolts and everything? When will you add a serious driver's seat? It will help, even in the tight fitting Caterham cockpit. Mike M.
MichaelD
Mike, Cage Weight is 70 lbs.including the under bars mounted to the frame and all of the hardware used to secure the cage. We did replace the Caterham FIA bar. With the addition of the cage I was able to remove the 54 lbs. of lead that I had added to make the D Mod minimum in Solo. Total weight with driver and 1/2 tank is still 1,426 lbs. The cage meets or exceeds the SCCA and NASA specs for an open car. I had a Caterham race seat and loved it. However, the fiberglass disintigrated at the right rear mounting area. It was beyond my abilities to repair. A new seat is next on the list. Next time on the lift I will post a photo of the bars mounted to the bottom of the car. Michael D.
