Want to do a spring tune up on my 7 and would like to get specs on: (1) spark plug gap, (2) valve clearances, (3) point gap, if not electronic, I am not sure what I have. Any other advise you have such as type of plug, oil, and oil filter would be greatly appreciated. Tom/Colorado

Tom - The cam you have will dictate what your valve clearance should be. This is an old post from Blatchat:

A Sprint with a standard cam is .014" inlet, .021" exhaust. A Sprint with an A2 cam is .020" inlet, .022" exhaust and a Supersprint is .022" inlet, .024" exhaust

I have the Kent 244 cam, which is also .022 and .024, set cold. The cam will also determine which plug to use, and each plug has it's own defined gap.

Steve- Thanks. It is a 1700 Supersprint using NGK B8ECS. I think the gap for the plug is 0.025". I am using Valvoline VR1 Racing 20-50w. Tom

The assembly guide that came with my 1993 Super Sprint states that the cam is a "Caterham BCD" with high lift, short duration profile. Valve clearance cold is Inlet .022" and Exhaust .024" .

In all the references I've seen to cams, I've never seen "BCD" mentioned. Can anyone confirm the cold clearances that were mentioned? Is "BCD" another name for one of the common supersprint cams?

Any suggestions on where to find the proper procedure for setting clearances? I'll start searching and googling for details.

This is my first step on my Spring tune.

Just want to be sure........

Thanks,

Tony

Thanks Steve for the clarification on the BCD cam. I went to adjust my valves, found several out of adjustment anywhere from .002 under to .003 over. I have the "self locking" adjusting screws and found that they were really really tight. A bit concerned about applying muscle, any trick to adjusting them? Expect them to be tight, but not that tight.

A related question on valve cover gaskets. Rubber with or without sealer?

Cork with or without sealer? Research is saying rubber without. Rubber gasket I bought is about twice as thick as the old cork, but still curious....

Thanks,

Tony
