Birkin42 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 After that race, which was in 2004 I think, Rossi (the rider that won) told Gibernau that he'd never win another race. Up until then, the two of them had been pretty competitive rivals, each winning a lot of races but usually Rossi coming out on top in the championship. The funny thing was, Gibernau never won a race ever again in 3 seasons of trying and retired at the end of last season. Love MotoGP.
xflow7 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I was trying to remember if it was at that race that Rossi made that statement. The extent to which Rossi appeared to psychologically "break" Gibernau around that time really was amazing. After that moment, it was routine that whenever Sete found himself in a strong position in the race he would basically just drive of the track. Or Rossi would continue to drive the nail in by letting Gib get by with 2 or 3 laps to go and think he had finally beaten him, and then right in the last 2 or 3 corners Rossi would dig just a bit deeper and find a way back by. Amazing stuff.
