Please check the website as "not found" . I will find it and sign up. reWiring up my car after a very long (30 days= 8 months) garage visit. I did buy a 95 Miata for a short time and it was great fun until I had to put the top up-- it was too darn hot. I know you had bought one which inspired my to buy one with a blown engine.

This is my fourth year as co-chair for the PCASB club and yes it is an unpaid volunteer position but watching the expression of people having fun and learning about what their car and their capibilities are at any of our autocross's is worth it besides I also have a lot of fun with it even if it is a lot of work.

This was the layout for the autocross that we had this past weekend at the Earl Warren Show Grounds in Santa Barbara. It was .6 miles long FTD was 70.346sec average was between 79 an 82sec. More of a technical course than a high speed layout.

Porsche North America and the local Porsche dealer also supplied one of their Pro Drivers to help with instructing first time autocorssers and even seasoned autocrossers and no he did not have the FTD.

My best time was a 74.464sec run in my 7 on street tires.

Martin: It looks like "The course from H*ll":). Not surprised the pro wasn't fastest. Roadracing skills are different than auto-x. Good for you for helping w/this event. Your time, on street tires, was excellent.

Hi Kitcat,

Here are some photos that were taken of my car and I on the course. Yes it was more of a technical course than a speed course as we have a number of first time Autocrossers and the layout of the course with cones as you can see from the photos. We make the layout so the spacing is 15 to 18 feet wide so there is enough room and to let people try different lines around the course. This layout is a bit tighter than where we run our other events due to the size of the parking lot and the area that we require for a safety margin for those enviable off course events that due occur.

John Lewis (Pro Driver from the Porsche Driving Experience Program) put down some very decent times for just showing up and driving an unfamiliar car (provided by the local Porsche dealership) that was being used just to demonstrate how doing different things while driving can make the car do what it does and how to not have it do those things and then being able to explain in a way that everyone can understand how and the why so that one can become a better and safer driver. You have to remember that his whole reason for being at our autocross was to provide guidance to participants no matter what they were driving to help them improve their driving and control of their auto. Heck I even had him ride with me and he was able to tell me a couple of things that I feel will help me. He said that my biggest issue he could see was my getting off the brakes to fast when breaking for a corner before starting my turn-in which can unbalance the car due to the transfer of energy from the springs from the compression that occurs when braking hard (the pitch back up of the front of the car). Sure made since to me after he pointed it out and it also helped me cut my lap times as I was not over cooking the corners as much and was able to be smoother through the corners I feel. I would recommend that anyone who is running an autocross or a track day get an instructor to ride with them as a refresher as we all tend to have some bad habits that we do not even realize that we do have and besides it is more of a tune up and if you pay attention to what the instructor tells you, you just might improve a whole lot even if it is only a half of a second as that is an enormous amount of time on an autocross course.

Looks like lots of fun, Martin. Please keep us posted on further autocrosses. I've been itching to try it to develop my car control skills. I've just bought a new Locost so there's no better time to learn.

I'll be out of town for Sept. 17th otherwise I would be there.

I need to move to CA. There is no way we could get an autocross like that up and running in Ontario Canada.

Brilliant looking event and track

Thanks twobone for the complement and I will pass it on to the rest of the team.

I have to say that the club, Santa Barbara Region Porsche Club runs four autocross's a year normally and that we have a group of people that work together to accomplish these events and that we have already started planning for next year’s autocross's. We will be running one more this year at the same location in October as a charity fund raiser (all proceeds to go to Habitat for Humanity). As you can see from the flier that I am one of the two co-chairs for the autocross team which consist of ten people that all help to get these autocross’s organized. This does not count the number of people that come out to help set the course the day before which usually takes about four hours as we set and mark all the cones for the event.

The hardest part is the cleanup (taking down all the cones and packing the trailer) as everyone is tired at the end of the day but we seem to always get it accomplished and so far we as a group are all still talking to each other.

Here is a clip that one of the participants posted of the autocross we held yesterday (Sept 17, 2011) at the Camarillo Airport. He was driving a 1963 Austin Mini and all his official times were within 0.119 sec of each other.

FTD was 65.554 sec and Slowest time was 105.155 with an average time during the day of 72.646 sec clean so his time is very respectable for a car with only 74 to 75 HP competing with other cars that have up to 6 times the HP stock.
