hoefi
Just purchased a 2003 Caterham with a Zetec engine. Since Caterham US's office is on vacation and nobody answering the phone, I have the following questions: 1) Where is the water temp sensor located for the water temp gauge on the dash? What make is the sensor? Anyone has a part number? 2) How many quarts of oil does this motor take with the Caterham alloy sump (I assume this is not a Ford OE part). 3) What is a good brake pad to run for track days. The local track is very brake intensive and I am very experienced. The car has the standard solid non-vented rotors. 4) Current pad compound, whatever it is, is not very confident inspiring even on the streets. Looking for something with a higher friction coefficient for street application. Any suggestions? TIA Edited August 19, 2011 by hoefi
blubarisax
You can get Pagid R14 Black pads from Caterham UK. Very fun on the track.
pksurveyor
Call Jeff Sloan at British Auto Specialist in Fort Worth. The Caterham alloy sump is by Raceline and it takes 4 quarts of oil. I have used Performance Friction pads on the standard brakes. It works good except for the squealing.
JohnCh
The Caterham alloy sump is by Raceline and it takes 4 quarts of oil. I think that's a typo. The Raceline sumps hold 5 liters of oil. -John
pksurveyor
http://www.raceline.co.uk/products/part_section.asp?SectionID=62&CategoryID=4 You are correct. 5 quarts.
Klasik-69
For track use I recommend the Carbotech brake pads. The company is in the Carolinas and I'm pretty sure they're made there as well. I started using their pads on my C6Z06 to improve both braking and brake modulation. I was surprised how good they were, and even more surprised how long they lasted in the Z06. I then bought some for my spec Miata car and again was very pleased with both performance and durability. My 04 Caterham has the AP racing pads as installed by the previous owner. They're good but I like using made in the USA products whenever I can..................Yeah, I know, I'm driving a British car :willy_nilly:
