powderbrake Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Great idea, I like th eother functions as well, it includes the odometer, which is important if you are replacing or substituting for a standardard speedo.
Birkin42 Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Does anyone have experience with their gauges in general, and the GPS speedo specifically? For the GPS speedo, I'm guessing it won't work in tunnels and other areas where signals won't be present. For a rapid speed change condition (hard accel/braking), I'm guessing the gauge may not keep up that well. Thoughts? Even their standard speedo looks interesting, particularly since they offer kph speedo's in a lot of sizes, ranges and styles at a reasonable price. More than I can say for VDO.
pksurveyor Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I have a set of Speedhut gauges in my Mini Cooper. The temperature gauge is 20 degree F too high vs. a mechanical gauge and the speedometer is 5 mph too slow vs. a TomTom. They are easy to read and not that expensive.
pi7ot Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I use a Garmin Fortrex 200 as a more readable at a glance supplemental speedo. It is mounted on my steering wheel. It is accurate with the Birkin(obstructed by steering wheel) and the SPA speedos on the same car but cannot keep up when accelerating, Um, enthusiastically. It looked from the vid that the speedhut jobbie was having similar issues. The finish on the clock face looks a little cheap to me. It would be a good addition if one were designing their own dash layout, but is otherwise compromised when located behind the steering wheel. m
