what's reasonable...?

Didn't want to highjack the Caterham thread but used cars are used cars and it's not about what you paid, or what it's "worth", it's all about finding the person who wants yours and picking the right time to sell. Bad time right now for a quick sale, cold, wet, dark and Christmas all keep specialty "good weather" cars low on the list.

I was just watching a Mekums auction and although there were no "7" type cars on the block there was a beautiful low milage late model Panoz roadster that went for I think about $18K. Not much return on the dollar there and mostly a case of not the right time/customers in the room. When you walk into the auction from a frozen parking lot facing several months of winter still to come I'm not thinking your feeling a lot of love for an open car unless you have been waiting for that particular one to pop up. LOL.

That being said, the "7's" crowd does seem to be a bit different and if your going to sell quickly I think this is where it will happen. Either by someone who is lurking, just waiting for the right car to pop up, or by a member contacting someone he knows is likely to have the desire and the cash.

Good luck and I hope it finds a nice new home.

Jim:

In our more southern climes, this is ideal Caterham season. The summers are just so hot down there and these cars run hot anyhow. So maybe its the perfect season, for someone?

I'm going to be at a Thunderhill track day Friday and it's looking like right about freezing for the first session so I guess for some of us there "is no off season". LOL.

Where he is sending the car to sell it's going to be the "dark, cold, wet and Christmas Season" I was talking about so unless someone has been waiting for just this car the walk-in customers may be a bit slow.

We get really hot summers here too (not the Bay Area, but the valley sees triple digits on a regular basis)just not as "sticky". Been through a couple of southern summers and a humid 90 there is like our dry105 here.

bought mine last december and drove through 10" of fresh snow to get it. and it is in the trailer but tomorrow may back it out and go to town (100 miles) got hot air comming of the radiator into cab and it is toasty. there is no bad time for a fun car. but there are some real bargains out there now.

No heater in mine except a flip up vent through the firewall over the passengers feet. I've tracked it in the cold before and the full face helmet and driving gloves were enough for a 20-25 minute track session. Would not want to do 100 miles on city streets at 30-35 degrees as I'm just a big pussy where being cold comes in. Biggest problem at the cold track days is getting some heat into the tires. I felt like someone had sanded the track for most of the day. Is a good way to see just how the rear will swing out without having to get to butt cheek clamping speeds. LOL.

Hope you get some clear weather and have a great ride.
