KiwiBirkin Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Hi does anyone know what Birkin used for the front disk (rotor) on a 1997/8 narrow track model, I belive the calipers are of a VW Golf, I need to change my fronts on my Birkin as they are getting glazed and hard. Cheers Stephen
slomove Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) I have this info.... M3101121AA Front Brake Discs VW Golf3 VR6 (Birkin machined) However, the old front calipers (before Outlaw 4-pot were installed) are supposed to be B5451355AA R/H Front Caliper VW GTI Golf 1985 onwards B5451356AA L/H Front Caliper VW GTI Golf 1985 onwards Not sure if that makes sense but I know the GTI calipers fit my '98 Birkin. But if your discs are just glazed, why not put them on a lathe and give a little refresh. Or put some really aggressive race pads on for a while, that will do the job ;-) Edited January 23, 2012 by slomove
rzempel Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I replaced my rotors with the Golf discs, and found I had to machine out the inside diameter a bit. I don't know if that's the case on the 97/98...mine's an '01. Randall
S3 Kim Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Thanks all. It does look like they're from VW late 80s Golf etc with the centers machined out. But mine seem to have a larger OD. I was able to get them machined. Just enough thickness left. I'd had an issue with warped rotor. Forums been great. Thanks again for your help.
