ianashdown Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Hi, We have just set the engine (Lotus Twin Cam) in place to fabricate the engine mounts and it appears to be in the correct position, height wise, with the top front edge of the cam cover just a little lower than the rear edge of the nose. However, the sumps appears to be too low, sticking out below the floor but at least a couple of inches. Is there a different sump that is generally used to help this problem? Thanks, Ian
Kitcat Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 How much clearance between the sump and ground? My X-flow had 3 3/4" clearance and hung down pretty far below the frame.
bsimon Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) The twink sits a bit lower than the x-flow in order for the cambox cover to clear the bonnet and nose cone. The last Lotus series three chassis (SS twincam) actually had a slightly taller nose cone to clear the cambox. This profile was carried on into all the Caterham series three chassis. I believe the twincam used the same sump as the x-flow. The only way to get more clearance would be to dry sump. Not that expensive to do with the Kent block. Look at the Pegasus racing catalog to see what's involved. Edited March 27, 2012 by bsimon
