James A
I finally found a VCT delete for my Contour engine, but before I install it and all that that entails who has experience using a VCT or SVT delete? At least I can now modify my exhaust cam for some improved performance. Experience anyone?
athens7
VCT delete for an SVT Zetec is a bad idea, IMHO. The car's cam profile means that without VCT, idle and low rpm drivability suffers. This tendency is exacerbated if the car has Kent cams. I know because I went down this road briefly early in my tuning process. I hear VCT delete is more effective when combined with forced induction; why, I don't know. YMMV.
James A
I know you went through a lot early on in your tuning efforts, I did not know you tried an SVT delete. Didn't you have some oil pressure issue involving the SVT that once you solved got your HP back where it should have been all along? There are some SCCA E Production race cars running SVT engines with the delete and producing some significant horsepower, thank goodness they have a 100 pound weight penalty over the non-SVT cars. I know the VCT deletes are very effective as VCT was for emissions and not performance. I am going to try the VCT delete so I can play with my exhaust cams to get some more power. athens7
The oil pressure issue was due to a C-F-M competition oil pump with billet aluminum gears I installed in replacement of the stock pump that increased oil pressure past the range that allowed for VCT actuation, which is based on oil pressure within a range. VCT on an SVT motor was not just for emissions, as I understand it, but also to allow for a broader and flatter torque curve. I do know that we were able to adjust the VCT mapping for a substantial increase in midrange torque. I also used an adjustable exhaust cam gear with the VCT (as VCT works only on the intake cam) and got additional power. I have no experience with non-SVT VCTs, which may have been emissions related only. No amount of extra power will make up for my lack of driving skill compared to the Robertson clan, though. On a different subject, I bought this today: Edited April 25, 2012 by athens7
MHKflyer52
Nice BOSS or is it a Shelby. Great color combo by the way.
athens7
Nice BOSS or is it a Shelby. Great color combo by the way. Thanks. It is a Boss (GT 500 not out yet). There is just something about yellow, right Martin? Sorry for the thread hijack, Jim.
jimrankin
The new Mustangs (and Camaros) are so much better than the classics they are based on it's almost frightening. I'm really impressed by what a few tweaks can do for these cars on track, and I mean just a few. I was just at Infineon for a track day and while the new Camaros were not represented the Mustang crowd came in hoards and most were truly awsome. It's great to see that the American car makers, at least two of the big three anyway, are taking turning and stoping as seriously as just going fast in a straight line. Have fun with your new toy!!!! James A
Nice Boss!!!! Love that car, saw some at a track day last weekend while I worked on the race car. One in particular was very well driven and fast. The Contour VCT on the exhaust was for emissions only and robs power, and thus my desire to install the VCT delete and regrind the exhaust cam.
