seschroeder
Has anyone used Caterham fender stays on a Birkin with success. Caterham makes one that has two "arms" one of which appears to attach to the rear upper front wishbone mount. Before I spend 70 Pounds on shipping I'd like to learn if they will work. Thanks in advance, Steve Schroeder
7veloce
Steve, I have a spare set form my 2003 Caterham if you are interested. What is the price for the set? Tom/Colorado.
seschroeder
If I am not mistaken they are about 35 Pounds each. I have a set of stays but they do not have the "arm" for the headlight/directioanl signal. I'd be very interested in a purchase. Thanks Steve
Marine7
Steve, I have tried. The wont work without modification. The distance between the UCA mounting point and headlight cinch bolts is slightly off. You'll find that the Cat stays fould the upper control arm (prevent it from rotating upwards under suspension compression) Some quick welding (moving the UCA mounting tab down an inch or so) and judicious bending and you should be able to make it work. I've swapped back to my cycle wings until I can find the time to make the modification. If it helps, I could try to take some photos this weekend to illustrate the fitment issues more clearly. seschroeder
Jason, that would be brilliant if you would forward/post some photos. Thanks in advance, Steve Schroeder
jbanker
I used Caterham fender stays with the headlight mount on a Stalker V6. Worked out great. Had to make the split tube mounting brackets that weld to the top of the frame. Jack
Marine7
Steve, Sorry its taken me so long to get back with a photo. Attached is a rather poor picture of the Caterham stay offered up to a Birkin. The horizontal tube is too short and only engages in the first pinch bolt. The lower support stay that should attach to the upper control arm bolt is a bit long. I notched my stays to see if I could make it work. The biggest issue is that the angle on the lower support interferes with the upper control arm. Anyone with access to a welder could make these stays work with a few very simple modifications. Hope this helps a bit. Jason
