sdaddy
I've been having a ball driving my new to me Birkin ('02 with a black top Zetec) in a way that helps the Emerald (K3) ECU "learn" what adjustments are needed to the injection map All of a sudden today though the PC doesn't see the ECU. I've made the connection many times over the last couple of weeks with the standard Emerald cable hooked to a USB adaptor. My PC detects the USB in the "com port" but there is no communication... Before I start digging into the wiring, any ideas? :bigear:
bsimon
USB adapters are notoriously crappy. Reinstall all the drivers for the adapter and try again. I wish we could get Carl to add USB communications to Emerald. RS232 ports are no longer available on PCs.
Klasik-69
I had problems communicating with my Pectel ECU using a serial/USB adapter using 3 or 4 different drivers. I gave up & bought a used Dell laptop with a serial port.... Problem solved.
sdaddy
Thanks for the suggestions. Reloading the USB driver was the first thought too... it did not work. I also tried disconnecting the power from the ECU so it might "reset". That didn't work either. Fortunately the folks at Emerald, i.e. Karl, are fantastic. A call and a brief follow up email exchange had me on the road to correctly diagnosing the problem, a bad "lead" (cable in US English). I've temporally patched the old one and it's working fine. A permanent replacement is on it's way from Emerald as well. Thanks again for the help. Edited October 18, 2012 by sdaddy
BusaNostra
Is your laptop "auto update" meaning when you turn it off, it will update some of the patches from Microsoft? Try this: click start - right click my computer - click properties -click hardware - click device manager (first, do you see yellow from other devices?) - click ports - click communication ports 1 or 3 - click disable - then click enable ----->then try the emerald.
