Canadian 7
Finally getting new rubber Saturday for my Westfield. It had 185/75-13 all season Kuhmo's on it. Going to 205/60-13 Toyo Proxes R888. Old tires were 460 treadwear. R888's are 100 - should hug the road a little better! http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj527/vipergts-r/null.jpg
Canadian 7
So I did not spell Kumho correctly - does not matter, they are coming off anyways!
Kitcat
Prepare to be shocked at how much better your car becomes. And at how much gravel gets tossed in on you....(definitely worth the trade off).
HOTTTCAR
The only thing better than R888s that I have used are Avon slicks and they are not legal on the street. Gale
twobone
looking forward to the stance pics and also hearing about the on-road performance
Canadian 7
All done. What a difference! Car is much smoother and quieter on the road now. Hooks up and corners like it was meant to. The stones flying off the tires at speed make a great ping ping sound. My 98 Viper has Kumho V700 tires so I am used to the "rolling stones". Here are some pics: http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj527/vipergts-r/th_null-4.jpg Difference in width: http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj527/vipergts-r/th_null-1.jpg Stance looks great: http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj527/vipergts-r/th_null-2.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj527/vipergts-r/th_null-3.jpg Anybody thinking of upgrading their old tires should listen to Arnold's line: DO IT NOW! twobone
Any rubbing at the rear in hard cornering?
Canadian 7
Me or the car? Lol. Not in the rear, but I had to "massage" the stays for the front cycle fenders a bit because the tires were rubbing on them.
Canadian 7
A week later and can't stop driving this little bugger now! Have been out all day today. Started out this morning with a heavy jacket, touque and leather gloves, and again this afternoon when it warmed up. Have to get used to sliding it in the corners. It grips right to the edge and then lets go - not like with the old tires where it was more gradual.
HOTTTCAR
Sounds like you are having a great time......but quick let go? I haven’t experienced that with mine. A couple of things you might try. If you are having an oversteer problem try stiffening up the front springs, assuming the rears are ok. This usually helps. If you are getting enough body roll with the new tires to extend the inboard rear shock to the fully extended stop this could cause a sudden oversteer situation also. Not good. Canadian 7
It is definately an oversteer issue. I will have to try and adjust the setup to get things more even. That is if I can stop driving long enough to work on it! Thanks for the input. Ron.
Canadian 7
Hey Gale, what tire pressure are you running with your R888's?
HOTTTCAR
I am running 23 psi today.......still playing with pressures, the set up and brakes. With 18/19 inch wheels breaking has become less than i am happy with even with yellow stuff pads and smaller masters.
SkinnyG
Try lower pressures. On Toyos, I've always found higher pressures let go quicker and are harder to reel back in. Low pressures let go more gradually.
