Oscar
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/Ahhsk/Super%207/IMG_6202_zpsd1d778a7.jpg Are these spacers required or are they an extra? if I had just a normal cork gasket I might have the clearance I need to run a foam filter without cutting the bonnet. I might even be able to keep the K&Ns that I have now. Any advice? I have everything apart because I wanted to get a look at the distributer since the car is no longer sparking. Im getting new plugs and a coil this afternoon and trying to see if that helps. Oscar
WitlessEvil
I've never seen an installation that didn't have them. Not to say the carbs couldn't work without them, but..... Maybe problems with tuning from the extra vibration? I don't know. That being said there is this. http://aptfast.com/ShowItem/102648%20One%20Piece%20Dcoe%20Soft%20Mount%20Kit.aspx Basically a big dowty seal with ears for the mounting bolts. It should save you the thickness of one o ring and the carrier. Never used these myself, so good luck. I kind of wonder why you are having this issue though. The carbs should line up reasonably well in the cutout without too much hassle. Up and down is adjusted by adding more washers under the motor mounts. There is no fore/aft adjustment, and should always be in the ballpark since the rear carb and aircleaner are partially shrouded by the hood. Oscar
I can see the benefit of a bit of insulation between the hot head and the intakes. I wasn't sure if it was an add on or stock. I'll make sure they go back on. This bonnet is a replacement that I ordered from Caterham, old one was lost in transport. It's off by maybe an inch which is quite a bit. One course of action is to just have the local body shop move the hole slightly aft. Im going to give a foam filter a go then decide if I need to cut or not. Thanks for the link. I was thinking about getting a new distributor and wasn't getting very far on ebay and google. Ordered some plugs from ebay UK earlier today, grabbed a coil from auto zone. DeanG
I've used both the dual o-ring and single o-ring versions. The single does save a little bit of space. A major point of the o-ring seems to be anti-vibration when paired with correctly compressed thackery washers.
silverfox
Dean has it - webers must be soft mounted to operate correctly i.e.with the O-ring spacers as you have, and using nylocs with thackery washers (or volvo style using sandwiched rubber between two steel cup washers). IMHO it is a must......
