twobone Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 My headlight switch burned out in the middle of the night. Yikes! Its one of those multi-prong female white plastic plugs. Anyways, I had noticed that when replacing the last switch, there was some corrosion in the plug. I tried to clean it up, but obviously that did not work. Do I have to replace the entire female plug or can I just replace the damaged female pin insert? I'd prefer not to splice something that takes so much current and sits above my right knee.
jlumba81 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Have your tried some CRC electrical contact cleaner? There shouldn't be very much current going thru the headlight switch. Its just (low current) used to trigger the headlight relay (high current).
11Budlite Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 When I rewired the original mess on my Birkin I bought some new connectors/terminals from British Wiring. The connector with 5 pins is p/n 836 and the connector with 8 pins for the hazard switch is p/n 835. They changed their website but the old catalog is viewable under the "Legacy Pages" tab. http://www.britishwiring.com/ [/url]http://www.triumphrescue.com/BritishWiring_oldsite/CAT16_19.PDF Here's a photo of the 5-pin connector.
