I have the higher FIA roll bar on a road car and am looking at options for a brake light up high on the roll bar.

In the middle of the top of the roll bar are two holes but they pass right through the bar and are used (presumably) for a strut. I can't see any way of getting the wiring inside the bar without drilling it, and that is likely to be a problem for any FIA inspection (even if that's an unlikely future for this car).

Does anyone have any experience of a neat solution?

I drilled the wiring hole in the base of the mounting plate of the roll bar and also through the mounting surface on the frame. Than ran the wire through the tubing using weld wire to fish it thru the tubing and a long needle nose. [takes a few tries] The holes were relative small since I only ran one wire and used the roll bar as a ground. Install grommets in holes to protect the wire. Dave W

Thanks Dave. I would be very grateful if you found a minute to upload a picture of how it looks.

How did you get the wire inside the roll bar at the point where the light is mounted on the top hoop of the bar? And how did you attach the light to the bar?

Thanks

I didn't want to drill into the roll bar either so I ran the wires through heat shrink and zip tied them to the bar. I mounted the light using velcro and it held great. I tapped into the brake wiring going to the right light for power and grounded at the panel that covers the fuel neck in the boot. I also added a flasher unit that gave 3 quick flashes before going solid.

The specs for roll bars that I have seen require ain inspection hole so that the thickness of the tube can be verified. I do not know about FIA requirements. I did the same as Dave, a hole in the tube up top near the light and a hole in the mount. Mine is welded to the frame, not removable, so I only had to worry about 1 hole there.
