I was out of town for two weeks on vacation .. Istanbul .. cruise .. Athens ..

Just got back .. and the trip was great! We stayed in the Sultinahmed district .. 2 blocks from the Blue Mosque pictured above and also 2 blocks from Haghia Sophia! We took a day cruise up the Bosphorus Strait between Europe and Asia and hiked to a castle fortress. Topkapi Palace and the Harem was amazing! Plus lots of great food. Haghia Sophia really amazed me most of all !

 

Then on to the cruise .. Ephesus, Rhodes, Badrum, Santorini, Mikanas, and Athens.

Yep, sounds like the itenerary we had. Hope you didn't do the donkey's on Santorini, like I did Big Mistake, I think I broke the donkey's back. Some great 7 roads on Rhodes. Ephesus was pretty cool too.

 

I heartily recommend a trip like this to everyone, what a history lesson. Tom

On Santorini, we rode the cable car up to Fira .. but made the mistake of walking down the winding path having to avoid donkey poo at every step and numerous asses (both front and back).

 

Santorini is a collapsed volcano caldera with the volcanic activitiy on the center island. It has a black sand beach! It is the site of that cruise ship that ran aground and sank recently.

 

I really enjoyed the trip. We were aboard the Windstar which holds about 150-160 passengers. Not one of the big ones. And several times they were able to turn off the motor and only use the wind to propel the boat.
