cheapracer
Interesting take on the rear end frame. Same with the central transmission tunnel framing. Well here's a shot with the Toyota 2JZ engine and W57 gearbox sitting in for a better perspective maybe .... Klasik-69
I assume you're making the plug for the fiberglass mold. From the looks of it, I'm assuming it will tilt forward. Are you going to split it in two at mid point or are you going to tilt the entire hood/nose as one piece as did the Jag XKE ? I'm on the same wavelength as you on the need for greater size. Yes, the 7 is an ideal handling car but it's really tight and aside from racing it, I doubt I would want to spend much time in the car because it is so cramped. I know others like that and it is likely part of the car's appeal but face it, none of us are getting any smaller with age. My thought was to use aluminum for the frame vs. steel. And my idea of a good power source is the LS3 or LS7 engine coupled to a 6 speed or one of the automatic paddle shifters used in the C7 driving a Cadillac CTS independent rear end for a bullet proof yet lightweight car. Are you going to split it in two at mid point or are you going to tilt the entire hood/nose as one piece as did the Jag XKE ? One piece tilt would be great but I imagine people would complain after a small accident where they just want to replace the nose cone so things to consider ..... I'm on the same wavelength as you on the need for greater size. It may come across as being a big car ... until you stand next to it and realise it's not, it's only large relative to a tiny 7. My thought was to use aluminum for the frame vs. steel. Aluminium is nice but not really cost effective or very repairable/modifiable. Nor is it much lighter at the end of the day and little difference in power to weight with an LS3 sitting up front (I like you thinking!). driving a Cadillac CTS independent rear end for a bullet proof yet lightweight car. With 32" trailing arms under it a lot of live axle issues are suddenly nullified.
Klasik-69
I sure wish you were close by so we could collaborate. I really like you're slant on making an ideal car. You're right about weight issue on aluminum frame but I love to TIG weld & made all aluminum fire truck bodies in the past so I'm comfortable with Al, like the looks of it. cheapracer
So while I am waiting for the wood to dry and get shaped for the new nose I ordered, I have started to chip out the rear bodywork. One of the nice things about having the basic diamond shape chassis is that triangulation often is the normal rather than needing to add it .... cheapracer
Well I'm happy enough with the buck's basic shape now to send it off to the car repairers and get it bogged/bondo'ed up and see how it comes out in a few days time ...
ultraslow
I do not mean to be negative. Hoever, just as thong underwear and lycra tights are not for every body type, perhaps the Super 7 is not for all sizes of people who want one. Why don't some buy a Z4 or something that can more easily accommodate them without adulterating the basic nature of what was meant to be a "small nimble car"? Automoda
Mmmm. I like the idea of a bigger seven, since the seven is really an 'experience' more than an exact design. I have plenty of friends and family who will NEVER get to take a ride in my Birkin and a Z4 wouldnt allow them to get the seven experience. Of course I agree with ultraslow that at some point, yeah, you have to give up. The human size constraints on an original sized 7 are seriously restricting though. So something one or two sizes up would be appreciated by lots of people. I'll keep my little Birkin as motivation to keep going to the gym LOL! cheapracer
Why don't some buy a Z4 or something that can more easily accommodate them without adulterating the basic nature of what was meant to be a "small nimble car"? In 1967 a Toyota Corolla weighed 1500lbs, now a Corolla weighs 2500lbs. People are now also considerable bigger, up and especially sideways. The biggest selling car in America is a Ford F150 - mine is a small nimble car, it's now 2014 and it's called relativity.
ultraslow
cheap racer, I was a bit too quick with my post. First it looks like a beautifullySecondly, executed design and it will indeed allow more to experience a seven-like car. I am sorry if I offended anyone and applaud your efforts.Times change and our views may need to change with them. ultraslow
cheapracer
I was a bit too quick with my post. You own 2 of them, I respect any opinion coming from a true enthusiast and understand there's an ethos as you see it that you would like to see maintained. Anyway ..... chipping away at the rear shape the last few days ...

cheapracer
Thank you. Wheels/tyres are 205/55/16 which are 610mm/24" diameter.
cheapracer
Just a little more to go then some filler and blending and get some nice radius into those corners ... I have been told my hood and nose is finished being bondo'ed so will go look in the morning.
Mondo
You might consider 17in as I think there's more street sized tires available (could be wrong)

cheapracer
So I made up an adjustable hood scoop that can be raised or lowered to suit different engine heights and then sent my bodywork over to my mate's fibreglass factory to start getting some moulds prepared and in the meantime will get some steering, pedals and brakes sorted out ...
